Subject: The Calm Before the Storm.. (How we can help the new members through)

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

What I dislike most is the sheer amount of misinformation that floods into the forums.

"Hey Bungie community, doesn't is suck how 500 Bungie employees are at 343i and Bungie is going out of business making Halo 12"

....

All these ideas so far are great and all, but in the end we know the real fans will stay and add numbers to those already cemented here as fans of Bungie and the rest of those only caught up in the hype will be gone after a year or two.

Safe to say, I think anyone who spends a small portion of their time on these forums knows to tell the difference between the helpful from the not-so-helpful.

Anyway, can't wait for greenhorns to show up.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

So. Much. Cheese.

We have to make sure we are on our best behavior for the newcomers. They are the future of Bungie.net and our community. We have an opportunity to be the best community ever.

If the Calm = 100+ posts on this thread, then the Storm is gonna be epic!

Storms are, by their very nature:
- wildly chaotic events that stress both living and manmade structures, sometimes to the breaking point
- an important mechanism for creativity and new growth, as information and resources and relationships get mixed up, redistributed and/or smash into each other
- fun to watch and even dance in, but impossible to try and stop or direct
- sometimes deserving of cool names like "Sandy" and "Mega"

Shouldn't we be doing that for the most part anyway?

Yes, but now is a very important time to make the experience the most enjoyable for everyone.

I agree with you.. in a way
But just because someone may leave in a year a two doesn't mean we can't make them feel welcomed. If we try to help a little those two years will be a great time and could lead to them staying as true fans. it will also make the next two years run smoother and better for you and me and for Bungie.

Great thread but it's very unlikely people will do this. I have been here for several influxes of new members. This never happens. Ever.

Like I said its not a requirement you do it, its an encouragement to help things go a lot better around here.

I have faith there are people here who will do this and it will help even if its a small way.

When you first join Bungie.net, there should be a probation period where when you post, it has to be reviewed first before it becomes visible to the public. It would cut down on all the rule breaking crap that newbies try to shove into the forums when we already have enough problems as it is.

Turn 10 Studios does it for all their forums and it is very effective. In case you don't know, Turn 10 produces all the Forza Motorsports games and they have a fairly active forum. Pleople complain all the time but its the only thing that works.

it could be definitely if it wasn't carefully planed and done right you would need a separate ninja for it.
