Subject: Titles: If you're given the choice, would you 'Opt. out'?

It seems pretty obvious that the 'title' system implemented here on Bnet is a behavioral modifier. Their function is to inspire newcomers to Bnet to become functioning members of an internet community. You did your homework, Timmy? Here's a shiny sticker.

There was a time when I was fascinated with the prospect of gaining and, with the help of some satirical threads on the topic, flaunting a title. I'm sure many of you at some point shared this sentiment. It's in our nature to express accomplishment and the title is our means to do so.

Despite this, I have found that as you gain more experience with Bnet (or forums in general) the title system loses its novelty. It loses its relevancy as users stop conducting themselves according to some construct and move towards conducting themselves on their own free will. While I agree with the systems intent, I do not agree with its current 'ball and chain' policy.

I believe that when a member reaches this point they should be given the option to 'opt out' of the system. What static title might replace the variant is really up for debate. The best route, in my opinion, is to just to remain Grateful Zebra | Member. However, they could range from Grateful Zebra | Dead Orbit to Grateful Zebra | Master Forum Zebra.

tl;dr:
If you were given to opportunity to opt out of the current title system, would you? What static titles would you like to see offered if such a feature was implemented?

Our titles are a neat way of proving commitment to this site, but it segregates us and creates an unnecessary hierarchy.

But I like being better than everyone else... So why the hell would I opt out of a sign that blatantly tells the general public that I am?

I honestly just like the variety in color that title bars give.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I like titles, they show age and dedication

The only way that it segregates us and creates an unnecessary hierarchy is when users like you believe such things.

OT: I wouldn't opt out of the title system. If there was a static title for such a choice, it shouldn't be anything but the default title that users get when they join Bnet.

You're not any better then any other member here. From what I can deduce from your title, you post regularly and you're committed to the site. This is something that most 'regulars' (Lets say 3 months active) share.

From what I've seen, the most common reply to a "why are you here" topic is "the community". I believe this implies a move from externally designed behavior to self applied behavior.

Anyone who thinks that there are more than five people on this website who actually think they are better than another person as far as their worth as a user on this site (when it comes to non-site-related and non-bungie-history-related issues) because of their title is terrible at the detection of sarcasm and jest. Fact.

I don't believe that text alone can clearly project an obtuse concept like sarcasm. I will admit that I have a difficult time sorting out which is which with the abundance if sarcasm/flaming on this site and in forums in general.

This may sound really silly but maybe they could add a prestige type system for when you reach the highest title. Not sure what they could do with it but they could do something. When going back to the lowest title again it could be a different color and a little symbol next to it.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

What I don't like about the title system, is that it doesn't seem to matter how long the posts one writes are; that one can gain xp by spewing out oneliners.

OT: yes, I'd give up my title, it doesn't seem to mean anything. What would it prove, how much I know, how trustworthy what I write is, how honourable I am? Would it show that I've behaved for three years? As far as I know one can reach levels higher than I even if one has been banned. So I'm having a hard time seeing a point with it.

The system doesn't seem to rewards more than one type of persona either - the chatty.

Idk really..

Major props to my hommie Sheeef. He made Recon possible for me. Long time recovering emails and passwords. And it was his. lol.

Titles are based on how much you post and how LITTLE you get banned/warned. (includes how long you've been on Bnet.)

Umm I'd make it so i couldn't lose my titles. ONLY UP!

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Even though it caused elitism, I would keep it. I like my gray bar that contrasts the even grayer background.
