Subject: Anybody ever fail a 5 credit college class?

<3

Well my procrastination and laziness has caught up to me and it looks like I'm going to get a D. For Engineering, I have to get a C in this useless class for me to get the diploma.

So what I'm wondering is. How bad does it look if I retake the class? Am I going to get screwed? Will I still be able to graduate in 4 years? I can handle taking extra classes if it means graduating in 4 years. I just need the reassurance from other college folks. My girlfriend is telling me not to sweat it.

Many schools just drop the first grade from your transcript and replace it with the second. Check with your school's academic office.

People retake classes. But you should talk to your counselor. Whether or not you can graduate in four years isn't about this one class, but what classes you have already taken and what requirements you have left to fill.

Only a 3 credit class.

I'm literally giving no effort in my 3 credit courses and it looks like I'm going to get about an A in all of them. I'm doing fine in Calculus, but it seems like you actually have to invest time into Chemistry. I've missed a couple quizzes and failed a couple tests and it looks like I'm in pretty bad shape. I'll have to retake it to get that C but I'm pretty sure I'll have to get an A in that course second time around or it will look pretty bad.

I just need some opinions from other floodians who have gone through this.

Your GPA will take a hit because of the grade but you need the credits. It's common for engineering students to retake classes. The best engineers I know have failed courses before. I mean it's a tough study. A lot of people I know go to college for 5 years for engineering. Either for retaking classes or they just need all of those classes.

Buckle down on your studies and discipline yourself when you retake it.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year

Look up your school's policy. Every school is different. You may have options.

Thanks man that makes me feel a lot better. I literally failed this course because of laziness. I'm a freshman and I think I was still feeling that senioritis from High School. It's a shame because I'm paying hundreds of dollars for these classes, but it's definitely a mistake I will not repeat.

When you retake a course, the new grade replaces the old grade. If you get a F or a D now, then retake it and get a B then it will only show the B.

Oh ok. I'll talk to my counselor to confirm that because I heard some schools still show the grade but they replace the GPA.

That varies by school. I was reviewing the policy of the university I attended, and it states that the grade replaces the failed course in your GPA, but still remains on your transcript (with the words "Grade Replaced" underneath it).

Either way, it's worth looking into. Your future employers will see that you took the initiative and retook the course; this will look good. Don't sweat it.

I'm like everyone else, failed a 3 credit course once. Key word: once. Second my folks caught wind, my dad threatened to kick my ass around the block.

Thanks man. I've been severely depressed these last couple of weeks thinking my life is over and that I'll never be an Engineer or get a job just because I can't get the required C in this chemistry class. Suicide almost crossed over my mind. But I guess I was just being an overreacting freshman.

When I had my life ruined by the cluster-blam!- of politics that is modern education, I ended up with a C- on 12 credits (student teaching). Brought a 3.81 down to a 3.6.

In most places, you can ask for an incomplete as long as it is before the last day of class, which I suspect may be too late for you. If that is the case, you basically retake the class and I believe they overwrite the grade and slap a little asterisk next to it. That's all.

No problem, and it's hardly call to panic. Most of us have been in the same position/situation. I failed one of the easiest courses in the world (Speech) because I accidentally slept in and missed the final exam. I just retook the course the next semester, got an A, and all was well. I got a few laughs about it during job interviews, but explained the situation and had no problem landing a few job offers.

Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

I've only ever managed to fail one course throughout all my school years.

And it was lolwoodworking.

Hey, what's speech about anyway? I'm taking that class next semester. My girlfriend is literally like my organizer I would have no idea what classes to choose if it wasn't for her. Anyway she told me I had to take this class and signed me up for it. Is it about public speaking or something?

It will look so bad having to retake that class, that you will never find a job. Not even at McDonalds.

Yeah I have no idea what was wrong with me this semester. I have been an honor roll student all of my grade school years and college comes around, I move to my own place and I magically become the laziest kid around. I've snapped out of it now so I'm pretty sure I'll get good grades the rest of my college career, and I just needed reassurance from the Flood that all is not lost. I feel like that Asian kid that got a B on his test because he's so used to getting A's.

Sorry for possible racism.

Hey what's up man we never played Halo 4 yet.

I hate those 3 credit classes. Many of them are useless. I'm currently taking a microeconomics class and even though the concepts may be useful for me if I ever decide to start my own business. I most likely will not do that and this class is useless. Luckily for me this class is easy as anything and I should get an A in it.
