Subject: Spider-Man 3....was not a bad film.

I actually thought it was a really good film. People talk all the time about why it's such a terrible film and it really isn't. Would anyone care to give me some reasons why it supposedly sucks so badly?

The reason why I bring this up is because IGN made an article telling people to go vote for the worst film ever made on RiffTrax, and multiple films made it on there that should not have made the list, and I believe Spider-Man 3 to be one of them.
Was it the best superhero film ever, or at least, the best Spiderman film? That can be debated. I wouldn't say that it was a terrible, or even a bad film.

Here's one of the reasons why i liked the film. It really tested Peter Parker's character and moral convictions. When he found out that Flint Marko killed his uncle, he was consumed with pure rage and hate. This hatred would be multiplied with the symbiote, which would drive him to try and kill Flint and it would escalate to attacking Harry, and then eventually, Mary Jane. By the end of the movie, he tries to right the wrongs he committed, by resolving his conflict with Harry before he dies, and by telling Flint that he forgives him. Peter came full circle, and let his killer LIVE in the end because he understood the reasons why Flint did what he did, even if his methods were misguided.

Another thing to note, people say this movie sucked because Venom only appeared for 20 minutes or so. The thing is this movie isn't about Venom, it's about Peter. Venom was the final confrontation; it was his hate personified and hosted by Eddie Brock. By defeating the demon he created, he can move forward and become a better person as a result.

Speaking of antagonists, Harry and Marko were not bad. Marko was like-able in that he wasn't necessarily a bad guy. While his methods were misguided, his end goal, while not justified, was out of love for his daughter. And he didn't even purposely kill Uncle Ben, he only shot him because he was startled. In the end, I really felt bad for him and the scene where he was turned into sand and he tried to pick up the necklace with Penny in it, it truly broke my heart.

As for Harry, I completely understand his pain. When he saw Peter bring his dad's corpse into the room at the end of the 1st film, I don't think anyone else would think something other than "This guy just murdered my father". Yes, he wasn't exactly the nicest guy once he turned back to his old self, but that's another example of hate consuming someone's personality.

However, this does not dismiss it's flaws, which I do agree, to some extent, that it does have them. For one, Gwen Stacy is probably on screen for the shortest amount of time, next to her father. I actually wanted to see if the writers could make her an interesting character. Nope. Tossed away in her third scene.
Then, of course, is the scene outside of the dress shop and the one in the bar with Gwen and Mary Jane. If I can recall correctly, it was stated that the symbiote amplified behavior and emotions, not necessarily hate and aggression. Peter was already goofy in the previous films, and it's only amplified by the symbiote. The scene outside the shop was him showing his cocky/confident side, and the scene in the bar was just revenge for Mary Jane dumping him, who only did so on threats against her life, and to Peter, who had been dating her for at least 2 years at that point, found it completely out of place and he just lost it. So while the scenes were over the top, I can still partially justify them.

What are your thoughts on the Spiderman films? Love them? Hate them? Honestly, give me your thoughts.

TL:DR Spiderman 3 doesn't suck and it's completely underrated.

"There's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I'd like to think that I walk that line every day."

1 and 2 were good
3 was not
3 is not "Battlefield Earth"
3 just isn't 1 and 2

none of them were good, never liked spiderman

That's a long read for such an old movie.

I thought it was ok. I may be biased though since Spiderman is my favorite superhero.

Spiderman 2 was the best of the trilogy though.

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

Yes it was.

It had a horrible representation of Peter Parker as a character and the other characters felt bland.

Just to clarify, did you mean the whole trilogy or did you refer to the third movie?

Disregard Females, acquire currency.

3 was bad. The other 2 were good though.

The Romance was the cancer killing that series.

3 just had more romance then the rest.

Yeah, the emo dance thing had nothing to do with it.

Oh, you think darkness is your ally. You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was already a man. By then, it was nothing to me but BLINDING!

It gets better with each viewing. Still, lot of unintentional humor.

You talking about the Jazz thing? That was romance related brah.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Yes it was, it just wasn't one of the worst ever made.

Get the hell off my planet!

I enjoyed it. I don't enjoy it as much as the other two in the trilogy, and I especially don't like it as much as the reboot, but it's enjoyable to me.

It's like my opinion on Dragon Ball GT, to an extent: people hate it for the little things (more or less), and a lot of others fall into the hate bandwagon.

"Hello, I am Ring Moniter 666 John Cena".

May I offer a rebuttal:
Emo Dance
Romance
Sandman getting this great ability and thinking "theft is the only way I can get money out of this."
Venom being a wuss
Butler being completely dense

What's Up.

The main reason it's terrible IMO is because of how they butchered Venom. They completely ruined the character of Venom in every single aspect and gave him the shortest fight scene I have ever seen. Not only that but it was barely exciting because of how bland it was. Spider-man 2 the video game's Mysterio's final boss fight was better than the Venom fight... NO! Better than the entire movie!

Didn't you like punch him once or something and he died? That game was amazing though.

1: I believe you are referring to the scene in the bar. If so, I already described my stance.

2: Elaborate.

3: I don't think a man with a history of theft and murder is exactly the greatest test subject for government testing, at least in the eyes of the law or anyone else he would speak to about it. If anything, they probably would have arrested him and then gotten him locked away.

4: How is he a wuss? He kidnapped Mary Jane and hung her 90 stories high to lure Peter into a trap to kill him. Yeah, Venom is shaking in his -blam!- boots.

5: "Comic" relief.

I be trippin'.

The biggest flaw was that it just had too many storylines.

Revenge against Sandman
Peter's romantic life
The Symbiote
Harry becomes the Green Goblin

They should've just combined the Harry Osborne plot with the MJ romance plot and called it a day. Then Spider-Man 5 has Peter don the Symbiote, and uses it to defeat the villain. Spider-Man 6 has the negative effects of the Symbiote come out, and then it is passed to Brock.

A real test of a man is if he is willing to scrape a sharpened razor up and down his junk just to please a woman.

No, but TMASM had a horrible Peter Parkinson.

  • 12.06.2012 8:23 PM PDT

That doesn't matter because The Amazing Spider Man is better than the original trilogy.

  • 12.06.2012 8:25 PM PDT

Just remember that no matter how terrible you feel, or how much you want to let go, there are people who care about you and love you.

The best part about 3 was the ending... when it ended.
