Subject: A Question: Why Can't Users Lock Their Own Threads?

Why can't a user lock his or her own thread? It seems it might help when an OP's thread is derailed.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Once a thread is posted, it is public domain

Found this via Google.

I just don't think it should be up to a non-moderator whether or not people can post. All you have to do is report misbehavior in a thread.

Dead Orbit is Best Orbit

Never affected me, then again I never make threads.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

I think part of it might be because it is the job of the Ninja to lock threads and it is their job to punish trolls instead of us.

Good idea.

I wish I could lock some of my threads.

And so the war of Gods and Demons shall begin. Tomorrow will end with your heart in my hand!

Love ya! =3

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to. It would help instead of having to edit the name to "Please Lock" all of the time.

Moar freedom is required.

PS
No, I do not want to join your clan/group.

Can't the OP just request that a ninja lock the thread if it gets out of hand? I could be wrong, but I don't really think any of the mods are going to say "nope; let the trolls have their fun."

I've seen quite a few threads where it took the mods quite a while to respond.

and if it's your thread, just message a mod to lock it..

Being able to lock your own thread would definitely be abused as soon as someone's thread isn't going the way they planned. Derailed or not.

That is a good point.

So what?

If i want to lock my thread, why shouldn't I, even if it is just because it isn't going my way?

Why can't a user lock his or her own thread? It seems it might help when an OP's thread is derailed.
1. Posts you create do not belong to you.
2. You cannot dictate what is or isn't allowed to be posted in a thread.
3. Locking your thread because of trolls and/or flaming would prevent further discussion related to the topic. The proper procedure (in some situations) would be for a moderator to warn or suspend the user(s) that violated the forum guidelines.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

While it would be a nice feature to have, it most likely wouldn't be used properly most of the time. For example, someone could look their thread prematurely because they felt that the discussion was over.

I think trolls would use it a lot

That to. I would think a lot of people would find it hilarious to keep locking and unlocking a thread.

People would just lock their threads when they see too much opinions they don't like.

Major props to my hommie Sheeef. He made Recon possible for me. Long time recovering emails and passwords. And it was his. lol.

It'd be nice, but it makes sense why we can't.
It's a way to control the flow/flood of threads.

When you open up your thoughts to the community, it becomes a community issue. You (anyone that isn't a mod) shouldn't have the right to silence someone just because you don't care what they have to say. Everyone should have their voice, even though sometimes I would agree they should be silenced.

People would just lock their threads when they see too much opinions they don't like.

...And? Then the thread dies. What's the problem?

What's the point of making thread then, if you lock the thread when you start seeing different opinions? Forums are a place for discussion, this option would only limit that.
