And in addition to announcing awards such as Game of the Year - the nominees are Assassin's Creed III, Dishonored, Journey, Mass Effect 3, The Walking Dead: The Game - new trailers for already announced games such as The Last of Us will be shown, as will five debut trailers.

"For hard-core gamers this is the first place you will ever see those new games," says the show's executive producer Mark Burnett. "Imagine if the Academy Awards was on and they announced five movies that no one has ever heard of. That is the equivalent. You will be on a rip-roaring, two-hour ride of television."

- USA Today.

5 games no one has seen or heard of yet, granted Destiny has been heard of, but it was never officially announced by names, just by leaks. If it would have never been leaked, it'd still be unnanounced, and for those normal gamers who don't follow BUNGiE, Destiny is new and unheard of.

It probably won't, but with 5 games debuting for the hardcore gamers, I'm hoping the odds are in my favor and Destiny is revealed.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Ken, your perception of time is -blam!-. They've been dark since early August, 2011.

Yeah and it will 2013 in 24 days and August is a little over 8 months away.

It will be 2 years relatively soon...

It has been a while, man

Hmm. I'm not entirely surprised to hear that they won't be there, but if their game is indeed slated for 2013, this seems an odd opportunity to pass on.

From a marketing/hype engine perspective, this would have made a good announcement period IMO. Hit now with a teaser, e3 with a trailer/demo, and then PAX Prime and the Tokyo gameshow event with more demonstrations and perhaps hands on interactions.

Now I'm not sure how or when I would expect something. Its possible they may decide to reveal the game themselves alongside a ton of news publications embargos lifting (here's hoping no more leaks) as its own separate entity away from everything else so they don't have any competition. If so, January would likely be the moment for them to shine. I definitely don't see them waiting til E3 for a game that may be launching in 2013.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

A lot of us thought the VGAs were going to be the reveal for Destiny. It's a good place to reveal a game to the masses. If Destiny is to be released in Fall of 2013, then a reveal now would make sense in relation to other titles and marketing practices.

But Bungie saying they aren't going to be at the VGAs certainly nails the door shut. Unless they're doing that "No, of course we're not throwing you a surprise party...." move, then it won't be at the VGAs.

Kind of glad, because I hate what the VGAs are. Very tacky. But at the same time disappointed I have to wait a while longer 'til Destiny is revealed.

Here's to hoping Destiny is revealed ASAP.

Ken, you can't round up to the next year only 1/4 of the way into the current one. It doesn't work like that.

It's been over 2 years since Bungie has released a game. They've been 'dark' in relation to Destiny for that long, lets say.

Although, Bungie is truly operating on their own time.

It's going to be interesting to see how everything plays out going into 2013. Even though Bungie may not be present at the awards, I'm not sure if Activision can still show their work or teaser. We're just in a generation of "I want it and I want it now!"

The only people that hyped it was the community. Bungie never hinted or said they would be there. I never believed for a second that Bungie show Destiny at the VGAs.

Great for you?

This really sucks though, :I

If you got your hopes up, and are now frustrated and disappointed, I feel sorry for you.

Just because you tie together a few vague factors with nothing really substantial, and conclude to yourself of something that "just must be, because I think it's a good time to show the game!", doesn't mean your made up theory has to or will come true. And when it doesn't, deal with it. No one got your hopes up but you.

There hasn't been anything "substantial" since the leak

You know what, I am still holding out for the VGAs, Bungie doesn't have to be physically there for there to be a teaser trailer of some game.

5 brand new IPs are going to be shown.

None from Rockstar, Valve or Nintendo.

Nah. I don't know about that. I think people have always been this way and the proliferation of the Internet just makes it look worse than it is. At the end of the day, all of the hopes for a Destiny trailer at the VGAs are just idle speculation from excited fans that can't wait to see what Bungie's got up their sleeve. There's very little indignation, if any, that Bungie won't be there. Some people got themselves hyped up and so now they are disappointed, but nobody that I've seen has gotten up and cursed out Bungie for not being there.

Just an average Iowa State University student. Go Cyclones!

You know, I'm kind of surprised so many people are jumping down Ken's throat on this. So what if he got excited? A bunch of us did. Like Hylebos said, recent events led to a realm of plausibility. Personally, I'm totally okay that there's nothing at the VGA's. At least now we've been told so. It's better than watching and expecting and being disappointed. But if Ken wants to keep hoping for something, that doesn't make him a bad person. Quit berating him.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

So glad I already knew they wouldn't. So many feels, feels good.

Ah well, the VGAs are still going to kick ass, Destiny would have just been icing on the cake.

The important thing is IF Destiny is not at the VGAs, WHEN might it be shown?

Most games tend to have close to a year - 8 months of time after their reveal before they are released.
