So it goes like this theres this 12 yr old scumbag who decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and get into my mother's car at night, (doors were unlocked at the time) take my backpack and throw it on the sidewalk a few meters away.

Everything appears to be inside the backpack except for my calculator. Now I don't know how to resolve this conflict; violence is out of the question as he is 4 yrs younger than me. All I can think of is telling him off about it as I don't have any real evidence to point him out, yet I know who it is.

... Talk to the kid's mother and ask? This doesn't seem like a very complicated situation at all...

So, you want to hear a story eh? One about treasure hunters? Have I got a story for you!

Say bye to your calculator.

Take me into your heart! Accept me as your savior! Nail me to the -blam!- cross, and let me be reborn!

He took your calculator?

Recon Number 54 -
If they are still looking, then while holding the snarl, I let drool start to drip from my mouth, I stand, curl my fingers into claws and with a hunched over crouch, I then make slow and deliberate steps towards them. When I get close enough, I let them hear my agonized and gasping growls and then, if they continue to stare, when I get within arm's reach? I kiss them on the nose, and run away giggling.

well, there's your first problem.

Go get a new calculator and be happy he didn't steal more valuable -blam!-, like the car itself.

It still doesn't make it right that he went into our car just to steal a calculator from me.

Since he is about 16, he probably has the TI-83 which is about $100 dollars. That isn't something that I would want to replace if I knew where it was.

Kick his ass.

I used to be all about resolving conflicts without violence, but sometimes violence is the best way to get your point across.

The 12 year old kid is obviously poor and can't afford a calculator, and he just wants one so he can pass his math classes and better himself. Why you gotta hate, OP?
