!!!/***LAUNCH TITLE***/!!!

What if, just what if, Bungie is dark because their next title will be a launch title for next generation game systems?

How could they release information about a title that is for a system that has yet to be announced. My guess is when information about the nextgen systems are formally announced, then we will see information about what Bungie has in store.

Do you think this might explain why Bungie has been so dark? Perhaps you have a hypothesis of your own you would like to share?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I don't want to buy a new system to play their next game.

Nope. It's for this generation. Destiny 1 could be on the next generation as well, but Destiny 1 is this generation.

You want their next title to be constrained by today game technologies? I don't know, isn't new always better?

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

I really hope that's not the case, but you could be right, OP. I just don't want to have to buy another console so soon... I bought the Halo 4 console since I needed a new Xbox 360.

Not really.

A new case of STD wouldn't be so grand IMO...

I have a Dell account... let's do this!

It really wouldn't matter to me if I had to buy a new system or not. More than likely I'd be buying the new system anyways, and if I got to also get Bungie's new game to break it in with, well that would just be sweet.

New hardware means having to learn the new hardware. From my understanding dev kits for the next generation were sent out sometime in August 2012, give or take a couple months.

If Destiny were a next gen launch title, that wouldn't give Bungie much time to develop their next game on the system.

Where as they could have been relatively full force in development for this generation since September 2010, give or take a couple months.

They have years of experience with this generation of consoles, they know it in and out basically. How to optimize, blah blah blah, do all this stuff with this generation. Where as with next generation, they have to re-learn how to do things.

Make sense? Look at the quality jump from Halo 3 to Halo: Reach. That isn't because hardware increased, that's because experience in the studio with the 360 increased.

Edit: Also, this generation has a userbase of tens of millions. If they were a launch title, exclusively a launch title, they'd be selling to maybe a couple million users (generous number).

Good points, and true. But this would also mean that Bungie has the development process down to such an art that they should have released the title this year. I wouldn't want to be competing with nextgen titles next year...

If it happens then it happens.. It would be kinda nice having it on the 360 first, but you never know thats what they could be planning.

If I have to get the next gen then I probably will, but like i said it would be nice to keep it on the 360 for now.

That makes no sense. They have to create all new assets. They have to create all new characters, all new enviroments, and they have to make new features. They will face new challenges with each game they make. Just because they are better then they once were, and can actually push the 360 to it's limits doesn't mean they can make a game faster. Why cut development by a year?

Also, new consoles come out after Destiny's proposed release. Destiny won't be competing with those "next gen" games for a while.

(sooo many commas..) Where are all the Exhibits?

I guess section 2.1 explains things, but Bungie~Activision still could be waiting on releasing information about "Product" until "Xbox 720" is announced.

I've bought the Xbox 360 just to play Halo 3. And if Halo 5 is suppose to be exclusively for the 720 - AND Destiny comes out on the 720? Sure, I'll sell my Xbox 360 and it's games for the 720.

Well, you've been doing it for the past year with all the money you've blown on swag.

Lurking these forums, rest assured that I'm silently judging you.

At least until Destiny.

If they released for current gen, that would put them in a better position to become acquainted with the next gen's devkit and better utilise its potential.
Regardless of when XBOX720 is releasing, I doubt they had devkits for it sent out in 2010. If Bungie decided to make Destiny for the 720, they'd be twiddling their thumbs waiting for the devkits to arrive.

Just my thoughts on it.

Jazzer008

I had a feeling this may be the case. The contract said they were releasing for a next gen Xbox console, and so it's reasonable to see why it would benefit both Bungie and Microsoft to wait until this console is announced and so they may we'll have agreed to stay silent.

But the contract also said it was going to be released on the 360, so they could still advertise the game for that. And what's to stop them teasing without showing the platform?

Idk, everything seems strange, it's cutting so close I think Bungie must have something up their sleeves, or at least a really good excuse.

And on another note, a lot of people say we should just be patient, and the longer it takes the better the game, and it will all be worth it in the end. I make games, if I had two types of people following my progress, one kept asking about the game, and speculating, the other told the hopeful fan to stop talking, be patient and stop speculating. I know which fan I would prefer.

Impatience is a sign of love for a good studio. I can't wait for Bungie to reveal. It's not like we're going to storm the keep or anything, but I'm not going to sit and say nothing, a man can dream. :P
