Subject: Why does a lot of the Flood think social media is bad?

Sometimes I am tempted to quit gaming. I can no longer play without seeing ponyphags, horrendously bad teammates and mexicans.

Gaming community, I want you to know that you suck.

k. Stop posting in it since you're clearly above these sort of topics.

Clearly, since this thread seems to be for those who can't spot obvious libel/media bias.

Elaborate.

Nah I should let you figure it out. You're not learning anything if I just tell you.

Also kiddies remember that employers not only look at what you post but who your friends are and what they post.
Employers can't legally do that in my country at least.
It's not uncommon (in the US) for an employer to ask a potential employee/interview candidate to login to their Facebook account during the interview so they can rummage through it. I don't, and never will, do this, but I know some of the other hiring managers at my company have done this.
That's absolutely horrible. I don't exist to work for a company, so what I have done before joining them and what I do on my free time should be none of their business. My god help America if that really happens there.

It's not as common as he's making it out to be, and you shouldn't be posting any inappropriate or illegal things on Facebook anyways.

I certainly wouldn't hire someone who gets wasted and parties every day.

Yeah, it's disgusting behavior. I always tell people the best way to handle a situation like that is to say something along the lines of "I don't feel comfortable with that, but if you send me a friend request, I'd be more than happy to add you." This way, you can control what they're able to see and you don't get that feeling of your privacy being invaded (at least not so much).

It's not something that will happen in every interview, but it happens more often than it should. And it's something that I've not only witnessed in my own company, but has been brought up in multiple conversations with other employers and friends/family.

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

False advertising.

Only legitimate reason for hating Facebook I've heard so far.

Why not inappropriate? It's your damn profile. And not posting illegal stuff is just obvious.

And once again, what people do on their freetime is none of the employers business, if it doesn't affect how they get their job done. If you need to stalk their Facebook in order to find out that they spend every night partying, then it clearly doesn't affect their work and shouldn't affect their employment.

Do you honestly think someone would hire a person who parties all day over someone responsible? It's like just putting "Getting wasted" on your resume and expecting to get a job, because there's a chance you could do the job well.

..you don't have to add any of them, if you don't like them. Easy, isn't it?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

It shows you how much information you inadvertently give away on Facebook.

Your posting habits, your location posting, etc.

Imagine a corporation or employer having this info.

Of course if the signs are visible, then it can affect their decision. But if Facebook is the only way to spot the difference, then it should not have any affect what so ever.

Didn't you read at all what I said? I'm not talking about an interview situation here, because asking to see someone's Facebook in that situation should be illegal in my opinion.

But it does.

Also, how would an employer know whether someone spends every night partying if they don't know them? And, if someone posts pictures that could end up embarrassing the company they work for online, then they won't get hired.

37 percent of employers do this, by the way.

I guess I should have said this more clearly, but I'm not talking about how it is at the moment, I'm talking about how it should be.

When I did it, it just gave me basic info about my friends. Maybe I didn't get accurate results because I'm not active and don't update my information.

In this case the players are responsible for the blame.

"Everyone on Facebook is retarded, saying things like #YOLO, etc"

Sorry, that's a problem with your friends. Get better ones. Unfriend annoying people, and friend people you actually want to talk to. Problem solved!

"They are evil, they r spreading mai personal informashun!!11"

No. They are not out to get you. If you aren't some criminal, why would they care about one of the hundreds of millions of people that use Facebook?

Now the first one is the result of something becoming popular, becoming mainstream always means that there's an influx of people like this.

The second has two reasons:

1. They're making money by selling your information without your consent, kind of like someone stalking you and selling every detail they find out about you.

2. They track damn near everything you do online, and then make a profit out of it, which is exactly like someone stalking you and selling every detail they find out about you.
