I think a robot society could successfully implement Communism. They would all work their jobs as hard as they could, the money would go into the pot, and they'd be fine. No one would slack, because they don't know what that means.
Humans don't work like that though. Someone will want the easy job. Someone won't want to work. Someone will inevitably throw a kink in the system, and it will fail.
Also, the only things robots need is fuel, oil, and spare parts.
When all your economy makes is fuel, oil, and parts, it's pretty easy to focus your production around that and provide for all.
But in the real world, we want a lot more than just the bare necessities. We want cars, smartphones with streaming services, snowboards, etc.
In pure communism, everyone is supposed to own the means of production, share in the wealth, and decide what to produce for the good of society as a whole. But the problem is that everyone would only decide to produce the things everyone agrees on needing; food, water, shelter, clothing, and the equipment to produce food, water, shelter, and clothing.
Society only agreeing on the basics and scarcity of resources would make it very difficult to produce cars, smartphones, TVs, game consoles, computers, designer clothes, snowboards, and the billions of other goods people enjoy. Many of these products exist in niches, and only small or limited segments of the population want them.
For ATVs to be built, everyone would have to stand up and agree that "We have decided to build ATVs for the good of all society".
