Subject: What does the US Airforce do?

You shall not pass!

So, I just got my ASVAB scores back and a recuirter came and talked to me. He said my score of 86 was very high and he claimed I should join the military. I declined.

Later I started thinking about it and I decided I might want to join if I can't pay for college(Not getting a scholarship, i'm not going to be 120,000$ in debt when I'm 18)

So I decided, if I join, what branch should I join. Then came the question......

what does the Airforce actually do? ( like if I was to get out of high school and enlist into the Airforce, what would I be doing)

Edit: I would be interested with computers( network intellegence, server administrator etc.) I was going to go into college for a major in computer science.

Yes, I AM just that awesome.

The Air Force usually only sends officers overseas, but it's impossible to tell you what you'd do if you don't tell us what you want to do.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Ah... dunno where you heard that buddy, but that's very untrue. Everybody gets overseas deployments.

Anyways, the Air Force has an enormous variety of jobs. I'm aiming for Judge Advocate myself. It's a matter of what you want, not what there is.

Depends on what you feel like doing. My plan is to enlist after graduation and serve 2-4 years over seas. That money will aid me in going to college and leaving as an officer.

At least, that's what I have in mind.

Assuming you graduate high school at 18, I have no idea what college costs 120k a semester.

You don't have to go to an Ivy League school, you know. I paid $1500 a semester for my degree; $12,000 total for tuition.

i'm planning on going to University of Kentucky for Computer Science or a Computer Engineer major. It will cost about 12,000$ a semester for dorms, food, books, and classes.

UK is the only school in the state of Kentucky that has both of the majors. I also have to go to a Kentucky school because I get a free 2,000$ for 4 years from Keys(a state funding for students who do great in school) and it only works for colleges that are in Kentucky.

Lol a future fellow airman, check out the website for careers. 86 is very good score, you can get almost any job that you want. The thing a lot of civilians need to realize is that not everybody in there sits on there butt all day. They have got jobs like EOD, CCT, PJ, SWT, TACP, SERE, ect. The Air Force will pay for your college, so it's not a bad deal if your trying to earn a degree. You can also earn degrees by just going through tech school. Like a SERE instructor earns a survivalist instructor degree after completion of training. Just research, that's what i did to come up with what branch and job i wanted.

If you don't want to be directly involved in war then don't join the military, because everybody in the military is directly involved in war. A while back, a girl was crying on her first deployment to Afghanistan because she said she was just in it for the college.

Well, both are highly desired majors by the Air force so... have at it. Plenty of jobs for both.

..which still doesn't add up to $120,000 by 18. $12k for all of your costs each semester is actually a really good price.

Air Force and Navy would be amazing for that. AMAZING technological mindsets. Thing is they may be sticklers medically, with the Navy probably being more lenient. I've seen Air Force kick a friend of mine from basic because he didn't know he had an allergy to a certain metal found in a wristwatch. I've seen Air Force discharge for a bad shoulder.

Then again I've also seen them pay college and hand people set jobs when they get out.

Those are the two branches I looked into least but hey, thinking technical? Think Air Force or Navy.

Yeah, its about 96,000 for 4 years, but I don't know how much students loans inflate the costs. (I don't have a chunck of money to throw at a university, I would Have to get a part time job and I highly doubt I will make 96,000$ within 4 years)

Consider it buying a house. What you borrow, you generally pay back that same amount more than that amount. When interest compounds, debts go high.
