Subject: Where Have All the Split Screen Games Gone?

I've noticed that the number of split screen games on the market (besides multi-million dollar titles) has began to fall faster and faster. Why is this happening? Is it some sort an attempt at selling online gaming or more games and consoles in greater numbers? There doesn't seem to be a decreased demand for split screen...

I find it sad.

The world is not beautiful: And that, in a way, lends it a sort of beauty.

Why include split screen when your customers can just buy a second console, game copy and maybe membership?

Online gaming.
I understand this, but must it be impossible to play angame together with someone in the same room anymore without a second TV, console, and game?

All mah friends don't even like splitscreen. They'd rather play online because they get the entire screen to themselves AND still get the benefit of talking with their buddies online.

Damn teenagers with your fullscreen online co-op and your fancy graphics. Back in my day, there was no online co-op and multiplayer was only made possible by inviting a friend over.

Life will always find a new way to ruin everything you know, enjoy the moments of peace to their fullest and prepare yourself for the lemons that are heading your way and you might just make it.

It's sad that the people who make games aren't bothered with it anymore...

Currently studying Computer Science & Software engineering. Hope to work on mobile devices of the future! When a certain game's credits roll, look out for my name! ;)

You will -blam!- bricks when you see what game it is! =)

Buy games made by id Software. Rage features a very fun gametype you can enjoy with a buddy in the same room.

Split screening is pretty hard to do at the end of a console's lifespan since the games are already pushing the limit of the console's processor.

Splitscreening basically makes the game process two games at once, which is why most of the time you see performance drop (either in framerate or in texture quality) when you splitscreen.

I am mainly talking about games that don't utterly dominate sales.
