I don't understand why guys wanna be in a relationship anyway. I mean sure it's great for girls, you get some poor sap who you can mooch off of and have him pay for dates and buy you crap and complain and nag. But for us guys it sucks, mentally and financially.

Guys don't bother with relationships till you are ready to marry, friends with benefits is the best of everything. Don't get trapped.

Jesus bud, how old are you? Are you so immature that you'd rather get your nut off than have a meaningful relationship with someone? Come back in like 5 years.

I'm 25 bro probably been in more than you. And friend with benefits is where it's at. All the fun none of the problems. Why are you all looking for your soulmates have fun while you are young.
That kind of fun isn't the kind I care to have with just anyone.

I agree with this to a point.

High school and college are a great time to have a lot of fun and -blam!- as many women as you can, but after you graduate it is perhaps time to slow down and start looking for something more real.

But seriously, have fun while you are young, you don't want to spend your prime mulling over some chick that dumped you, or wasting away dating someone long distance and getting it once every 6 months.

But that could be turned the other way around.

If you know it's going to be flamed and thrown off-topic, what would be the purpose in making the thread in the first place when you have a good idea of what exactly it is going to become?

It's an opinionated question.
Because other people's bad behaviour is not my fault?

Because "they can't control themselves" is not an excuse, not ever, and I shouldn't have to censor what I say when it's within the rules just because some people here don't know how to behave around others?

Because maybe if a few people are having a civil conversation and a few people insist on derailing it by telling me I'm not pretty enough to date, then the problem is very obviously with them and not with the people talking about the content of the OP?

I should not have to apologize for the bad behavior of other people, and nor should anyone else. Grow up, guys.
Am I asking for an apology? No. Never did I do such a thing, nor do I expect one.

I'm trying to think about how I can properly articulate my thoughts, but the damn thinker just won't work right now.

All I'm going to say for now is that the title itself makes it seem as if you were promoting you and Harlow's relationship in the first place. I'm happy for you guys, I really am, but... I don't know. I'm confused now.

I know that any topic can get flamed but I never have a general idea of how complete strangers on the Internet will act and that should never prevent me from posting a topic that I feel is discussion worthy in any way.
Well alright then. That's you, not me. If that's truly what you wish, then go ahead and do it. I'm just saying that if you want a proper discussion, at least choose a topic that isn't going to get derailed by haters and/or people arguing over what threads should and shouldn't be concluded acceptable to post.
I'm not judging you for derailing this thread but that doesn't mean I understand your ranting.

Ranting? Well I could say the same of yourself missy.

I do believe this is the first time I've ever had an actual serious discussion/debate on the Flood. It surprises even myself. I only wish though that it had been in an entirely different thread.

I am obviously pretty happy about my relationship. I guess it shows.

But regardless of how self-promoting the thread seems, it's a legitimate thread with as much discussion value as any other (and more so than some, I would venture to add).

Okay, Here's something to discuss:

Don't you hate it when people have Monthly Relationship Celebrations?

WE'VE BEEN TOGETHER FOR A MONTH OMG

WE'VE BEEN TOGETHER FOR 4 MONTHS OMG

WE'VE BEEN TOGETHER FOR 6 MONTHS OMG

Sure, I'm down for a yearly celebration, but that's YEARLY.

(No, I'm not flaming the OP for saying 18 months rather than 'a year and a half'. While her use of months brought about my current post, i'm not targeting her as i doubt that's what she was aiming for with the title... hopefully)

Alright, then I apologize for partly ruining your thread. I mainly just wanted to state my opinion, but for the first time it actually caught someones attention that had something legitimate to argue about in an effective way.

I don't really get that chance often, so I took it.

Anyway, I wish you and the mister many more happy months and years of love.

Speak for yourself. If I hadn't met the girl that i'm currently with, I probably wouldn't be posting right now...I was planning to kill myself before I met her. I never was the happiest individual...but after the time i've been with her, i'm a lot better off than I used to be. More happy, more optimistic, and really more confident.

As for the whole "friends with benefits" deal...I never quite understood the appeal of it.

Wow really kill yourself? And what happens if and most likely when you two break up? You are gonna be even more miserable.

You gotta learn to be happy and self sufficient alone before you get in a healthy relationship.

We don't celebrate every month (though one of us usually mentions it: "hey, a year and five months today!", something like that) - but years and half years are pretty big milestones, especially in the first couple of years of a relationship.

Could it be possible that the OP isn't, in fact, a male?

That comment made me die a little inside, too.

My girlfriend and I have been doing monthly celebrations since it's only our first year, but the 13th of January? The one we're really going to be happy about, and happy to spend together. Another bonus is that she'll be the first girl for me to hit my year long milestone with. Just makes it all the more special. :)

Eh. At six months I gave her a highfive and some chicken nuggets. At a year I took her to San Diego for a day-long date.
Year and a Half, watched a movie or something. Two years- Bought roses, made dinner, etc

Half years don't mean much to me, either. It's sort of like Half Birthdays or the last day of June... You still have 6 months for -blam!- to happen!

Halo 3

So everyone always claims that OP is an attention whore. Other complementary insults include OP being insecure in general and in physical appearance. But for the sake of experiment, focus on one variable: attention-whore.

Well I just decided to look at OP's "Recent Posts," and I noticed a trend. OP would only make threads (and most are very stirring) and post in those. OP doesn't seem to go on the Flood to post about anything else besides topics like these - topics related to self-image. OP also doesn't seem to post in other peoples' threads. At least that's a recent study that holds true through October 2012.

My conclusion: OP is an attention whore. Flood consensus is correct. Lock thread.

Six months for us was three days before we met for the first time.

A year happened while he was over in Australia visiting me. We went out on a really nice dinner date and walked along the beach and stuff afterwards. It was such a beautiful night.

A year and a half is today, but he's got finals to study for so we're not going to do anything for it until after they're done. Right now we're sitting in bed together and he's playing Pokemon. I can't even tell you how happy I am.
