I swear to DRUNK, I'm not GOD!
I think it reflects the selection of games this year, which was NOT very good. Last year we had Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Portal 2, Minecraft, and a lot of other really stellar and noteworthy titles come out.
This year... about the most high-profile game released was Assassin's Creed 3, and Halo 4 (which, really, was just another halo game), and Dishonored. Out of those three, Dishonored is the first that's got an original premise and felt the most fresh. Last year's sequels were all sequels to games that had come out many years before, but this time the sequels either had similar games appearing very recently or just weren't as innovative as past titles.
Furthermore, the industry is holding its breath for the release of new consoles next year. Hopefully by then we'll see some games running that ultra-sexy Unreal Engine 4 with its dynamic destructible environments and crazy awesome lighting effects. Plus, the Wii U is still in its infancy.
It'll probably be a better show next year, but I think the reason this year's show sucked so much is because the games that came out this year were really lackluster.
