Pass the controller bro

I suppose it deserves it, I don't care. I mean it has aged pretty well after all.

Halo 2 was the best Halo game
A7x FoREVer!

I know a lot of people enjoyed the game, but I never got a chance to play it until years after it was out and the game felt outdated.

Yup, just about the only FPS ever made that had actual gameplay variety, not to mention excellent storytelling and sense of adventure. There's just something so cool about thinking how you came all the way to white forest (if you count the episodes, which I do) from city 17, all without cutting away to a single cutscene.

Same, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Half-Life 2 is easily the best video game ever made. The writing is excellent, the story compelling and unique, the voice acting superb, the art design paints the perfect mood and despite it's age still manages to hold up to scrutiny this many years later, the 'atmosphere' creates the best immersion of any game I've ever seen, and the engine was so far ahead of it's time that it still fits right in with modern day games (and in fact, still powers some of them).

Valve may take their sweet time making their games, but damn, when they release them, they really blow it out of the water. I anticipate that Half-Life 2 will only lose it's crown as the greatest game whenever Half-Life 3 is released (probably on the new Source engine).

Just checked the VGA winners. Do they have a boner for Borderlands 2 or something?

  • 12.08.2012 2:06 AM PDT

Didn't deserve it. A poor game with mediocre gameplay and a sub-par plot.

*zips up flamesuit*

Valve are overrated. Their only game that I found myself playing again and again was Portal 2.

I love the game but I somewhat agree...

I don't think I've ever disagreed more with a decision like this. I think the game sucks. I also think WoW sucks yet I am not so blind as to acknowledge that WoW is king. Simple as that.

Circle Jerkin' I got my wiener workin'

I never understood why Half Life 2 has received so much praise. When I played it when it came out I thought is was pretty mediocre.

In my opinion it is extremely overrated and I don't see anything it did better than other games.

Same here, except for the playing it when it came out. I played it first in 2008.

I dunno, but if I had to choose game of the decade I'd probably choose something else.

I wholeheartedly disagree with that.

Who'd you want to win?

Wasn't really paying attention to it, but I don't think Half Life 2 deserves the title.

It was definitely a fun game, but it performed poorly in terms of sales, had decent but unimpressive graphics, uninspired gameplay (the gravity gun being the stark exception), the plot was fairly bland, there was zero character development, etc.

Are you serious?
First off sales dont determine if the game is well made and is a blockbuster.
The graphics were good at that time.
Gameplay is wery solid.
The plot is amazing, and the characters are still better than in the newest games these days.

3rd edition. Now with more grunt.

TFS 4 lyfe

Even though I was not a fan, I can respect that decision. Although for me, my vote goes to one of the Bethesda RPG's, COD4, or Briad.

I didn't like Half Life 2 very much - I stopped playing halfway through the highway level - boring characters, weapons, music, meh.

Same here bro.
I got The Orange Box for 360 some time ago.
Only things I found myself playing were Portal and TF2.

You think they may release details on the next half life game, now that they've won this?

Halo 3 and BioShock are better, but HL2 is still incredible.

Wow..... it was good.... but was not expecting to see that.

To be honest I was expecting to see something silly like CoD.

Worst awards handed out to anything, ever.

Every single winner in every individual category should be frowned upon. THE WALKING DEAD, THE VIDEO GAME FOR GAME OF THE YEAR??????? LOLLLL, are you actually kidding me?

How did 343i not get Studio of the Year? Their job was to take one of the biggest, most successful franchises in gaming and that's what they did, with no experience together, no history with past games (Excluding Anniversary since it's a remake)...I mean seriously, Telltale Games...they literally pump out games EVERY year, hell, probably THREE times a year they have new games? Want to know why? They're terrible. It's the same damn engine, stupid, wacky side-stories (nobody likes those in adaptation games), awful graphics, and just plain BORING games.

Don't get me started on Half-Life 2...good game, yes. Greatest game in the past 10 years? Hell no.

I'm surprised that Assassin's Creed 3 didn't win any awards because it was a pretty solid game in my opinion.

Pretty solid =/= award-winning quality.

I think AC wore me out over the last few years. II is perhaps my favourite free-roaming game of all time, bar maybe Skyrim, but III is just meh. Haven't enjoyed it very much at all.

yet.
