Absolutely, I definitely noted a bunch of parallels there. And, I have to admit that Bioshock did some things incredibly well. Their environments were gorgeous and the gunplay, environment interaction, and plasmids were awesome. Couple that with the upgrade system and you nail gameplay.
What killed the game for me was the drab level design. The environments were gorgeous, but each level was a repeat of the last. Meet someone crazy, go on a fetch quest MMO style to collect random scraps, and kill the crazy individual. The fact that the intro immediately made it apparent to me too that Atlas would be the bad guy made the twist feel weird. It was cool, but I already knew he'd be the bad guy so it didn't feel unexpected. The commentary made I love, but it just...didn't resonate with me. And the whole fetch questy attitude felt out of place in a game devoted to story.
But that's just my opinion. I love some things they did and hate others. Just as I hate the driving sections in Half-Life 2, but appreciate what they attempted with them. I just never felt they controlled well. It isn't Halo driving.
