Subject: Dark Souls 2 announced!

Sauce

I rather disapprove of the name...And I have mixed feelings about the game, I hear they are making it more "Accessible" and are gunning for a bigger playerbase.

That could mean many things..They could casualize the game..

>Minimap
>Quest markers
>Less subtlety regarding the story (In Dark Souls 1 you had to fetch the lore via various item descriptions.)

I'm poking it with a stick..I'd hate to see such a game become casualized.

Your thoughts flood?

Fair play

I hated the first Dark Souls, because of it's unbalanced PvP.

Players that didn't follow ¨the honor code¨ and exploited glitches were even worse.

You learn to laugh at those people eventually.

I know I did.

There's only an announcement trailer so far so... I'm not too concerned. As long as they keep Dark Souls hard and punishing, I don't really think there is really any logical way to casualize it.

The only thing so far I'd worry about is the change in directors, but even so, the previous director is supervising.

All I want is for this game to be more polished. The end-game areas in Dark Souls were mediocre at best, and needed a lot of work. I'd also like to see them learn from their mistakes with the covenant system.

I don't know man, quest markers are a huge turn off.

I remember questing in World of Warcraft without quest markers. I'm used to either way, it's the same thing.

I don't have issues navigating through worlds.

Now why would you do that?

If you get a chance to talk to K-Mart, tell him Mabian misses him...

He won't remember me, but it's always nice to let a complete stranger on the internet know that you care.

Sir I can't help but get the sense that you don't want to really talk about this, you want to "nail" me.

I don't have the money to buy all these awesome new games coming out. :(

A really cool way for them to "casualize" the game would be to make two player modes.

The first would be classic mode, something incredibly similar to the original's difficulty. The latter would be the more user friendly edition perhaps with co-op, but in it you can't earn any achievements/trophies.

Make it so only the hardcore can show their badassery.

''I want people to be sincere; a man of honor shouldn't speak a single word that doesn't come straight from his heart. ''

Yay for it coming to PC!

"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

On the other hand, accessibility could mean a better explanation of game systems. For example, they could explain what Humanity does for new players. They won't be forced to experiment so much, and we'll still have the brutal difficulty we love. I doubt they'll casualize this game; they know why fans respect the series and they won't ruin it.

It's a'me, Sesto

I hope they don't make it easy. I'm all for making the story more... accessible, but I don't want the game to become a bore.

What are these first person words you speak of?

Teh puma really hopes they don't bring in the casualness. He understands to their needs to make money, and get a larger audience, but it would really sadden him if he no longer had the ability to get lost in the world, or most monster becoming 1-2 hits even on playthroughs 5-7.

On the one hand, I completely agree. They do need to explain certain things better. But, on the other hand, part of the game's challenge stems from no explanation and the spirit of mystery and exploration that arises from it.

Moving the game to a more linear story with more gameplay explanations could be detrimental to the difficulty and overall atmosphere of the game. Ultimately, I think the team is going to succeed. The alterations from Demon Souls to Dark Souls were an improvement and their online has always been something the rest of the industry needs to look at for their games. I think we're in safe hands.

OMGZZ!!!!!!

"It's Afghanistanimation!"

If it is true that they want to make the game more accessible. Then it better be a separate mode altogether for them. They would not achieve the same level of satisfaction and achievement that we have when we nearly have broken all of our windows....

I agree that explaining systems to the point where there's no room for experimentation or discovery would be a serious mistake; but at the same time, I know people who would have enjoyed the Souls series, but got frustrated by the lack of direction and explanation. In Dark Souls, even figuring out where to go next could be a challenge. I personally loved the discoverym and I liked NOT having constant information thrown in my face. But that's probably not true for everyone, and if they want to make more sales, they'll have to draw in a larger audience.

He threw down a glove you made the mistake
Of picking it up now you're gone
The choosing of guns or fighting with swords
The choice of weapons is done
He'll tear you apart as soon as you start
You know you don't have a chance.

Just bought Dark Souls myself, at Dumb and Dumber.

I like how they went from Demon Souls -> Dark Souls -> Dark Souls 2. Or no. No I do not.

But there's lots of things I want included in the game. Don't want a c/p with just a new story and setting.

Honestly, they could accomplish some serious direction/explanation for the player solely by changing their UI. The menus always seem incredibly cluttered with information. If they developed a more Skyrim esque approach to displaying the information on screen with better information display, I think the game would drastically improve. Not that Skyrim's is perfect, but I always feel like I understand everything being displayed to me better instead of having to click a bunch of buttons just to see the definition for an item.

<3

I just found out about this yesterday I am so friggen excited. I could replay Dark Souls a dozen times with different builds and strategies before I ever got close to getting bored, and then they come out with a sequel! I gotta go beat New Game + now. I haven't even play Artorias of the Abyss (sp?)

God damn it, they went to DaS BECAUSE SONY OWNS DEMON'S SOULS. Why do people in every forum don't understand that? DaS II also gives a better brand recognition.

As long as they don't casual it up too much, I think they should make it more difficult tbh, because as a series veteran it's quite a bit easier to get into each game.
