Just bought Dark Souls myself, at Dumb and Dumber.

I like how they went from Demon Souls -> Dark Souls -> Dark Souls 2. Or no. No I do not.

But there's lots of things I want included in the game. Don't want a c/p with just a new story and setting.
Well Dark Souls wasn't a direct sequel to Demon Souls .

Halo 3 -> Halo Reach -> Halo 4
GTA 3 -> GTA San Andreas -> GTA 4

They wouldn't casualize this game. The difficulty is what made it popular.

Honestly, they could accomplish some serious direction/explanation for the player solely by changing their UI. The menus always seem incredibly cluttered with information. If they developed a more Skyrim esque approach to displaying the information on screen with better information display, I think the game would drastically improve. Not that Skyrim's is perfect, but I always feel like I understand everything being displayed to me better instead of having to click a bunch of buttons just to see the definition for an item.

The menu navigation definitely takes a while to learn. I think the game could also benefit from a deeper explanation of stats and exactly how they affect gameplay. As a longtime fan of fantasy tabletop games like D&D, I'm pretty familiar with them, but I can't help but feel as if it's intimidating to newcomers to role-playing. Streamlining the menu systems while providing more information about the items or what-have-you being displayed would be nice.

What I really, REALLY hope doesn't happen is the world losing the incredible mystery and sense of scale. Several moments from both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are some of my favorites from any game: Exploring the Boletarian Castle in Demon's Souls, the first sweeping view of Anor Londo from Dark Souls, and the moment when you really begin to appreciate just how big the game world really is.

I think the open world from Dark Souls was a huge improvement, and the exploration was a joy. I'd hate to see that get replaced by linear gameplay. One could argue that Demon's Souls was linear, but the excellent level design more than made up for it.

Proud Spartan II, COG soldier, Hero of time, and crowbar wielding scientist.

So far, the suggestions of making the game easier are pretty cool. I was kind of uneasy when I heard about the "larger fan base" goal, but I think it'll be fine.

On the other hand, that trailer was BADASS.

Probably the coolest trailer so far!

I'm pretty sure FromSoft doesn't give a rat's ass about casuals and knows that their fan base likes the difficulty of their games. You guys are worrying about nothing.

Slightly off-topic, but am I the only one who found Dark Souls too easy ? I'm not trying to act like I'm a pro at the series or anything, but I was just hoping for even more rage. The only times I grew seriously angry were Ornstein and Smough and the Anor Londo archers.

The game is a tough one, but one that can be mastered.

However,
The four kings.

Indeed. 4 kings, by yourself, on any playthrough above the second one? -blam!- that.

I actually didn't struggle with them that much. Although the whole black abyss thing confused the heck out of me. I must have killed myself at least 3 times trying to drop down without the seal.

He threw down a glove you made the mistake
Of picking it up now you're gone
The choosing of guns or fighting with swords
The choice of weapons is done
He'll tear you apart as soon as you start
You know you don't have a chance.

God damn it, they went to DaS BECAUSE SONY OWNS DEMON'S SOULS. Why do people in every forum don't understand that? DaS II also gives a better brand recognition.

I know that, but Dark Souls 2 sounds so bad, and when you know DaS is a spiritual succ. Then it sounds even worse.

I hear they are making it more "Accessible" and are gunning for a bigger playerbase
I heard that they're just making the story more accessible not the gameplay.

Well, the first Dark Souls was hardcore to a fault. It's a balance my good raptor. Clearly the optimal solution would not be to dumb down things for everyone, and I think the folks at Take realize that.

Just having more resources for players to train up or more helpful NPCs that perhaps actually explains what stats do would do wonders. I remember the first time I played I had to go onto the wiki to figure out what half the stats did and what I should invest in if I wanted to make a certain kind of character.

Just streamlining it a bit wouldn't hurt, perhaps even a class that auto levels you up for a decent (but certainetly unoptimized) build.

What? No Go references? I'm disappointed.

Just kidding. :) I agree that the stats could be confusing if you're a newcomer to hardcore fantasy role-playing.

I'd also like to see them learn from their mistakes with the covenant system.

yeah, even if it's as simple as making them more balanced. I mean, really, who uses way of white?
