Subject: So VGA's game of the year...

Happens to be The Walking Dead: the game. I've never played this game, but I'm sure most of you have. So Flood, is The Walking Dead a good enough game to earn this title?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

All I've heard is that it certainly doesn't deserve GOTY apparently.

I really think there should be a GOTY for those small kind of indie/arcade developers and bigger budget ones. It kind of degrades the retail games when you bring downloadable, smaller games into it.

I guess I would've just like to have seen a game I had actually heard of win GOTY.

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

Couldn't get into the series, never played the game.

VGA lacked Far Cry 3, AC3 should've been replaced.

Sorry, but that's bull-blam!-. There are many indie games/low budget games that deserve GOTY a lot more than some AAA ones do.

Haven't played it, but I've heard the following about it:

- You have to make choices in the game, and those choices dramatically affect the outcome of future episodes (example/ one guy could die in an episode, or you could save him and he'll live to fight in the next one). So, your choices actually matter (lolME3)

- The story is simply amazing and you really care for the characters.

- Very simple game, yet it absolutely excels in everything it's trying to do.

- You will cry throughout the game and at the end.

So, I guess it certainly sounds like a GOTY to me.

Call me Stu

The walking Dead game was quite bad TBH.

Everything about it was quite linear, grab some items, walk here, go over there and half of the time your decisions don't count for anything.

If you clicked on here to ignore my coup, why? Do I look ugly to you? Do I look fat in this dress or what? Jerk.

Definitely my favourite game this year.

Don't Pm me for groups, Cheers!

Watched a few play-throughs of Walking Dead. Fantastic game, but definitely not game of the year material.

Yeah, it would have blown it all out of the water hands down... But The Walking Dead deserves it!

  • 12.08.2012 7:22 AM PDT

I don't think any of the retail games deserved it.. This year was really lacking.

I'm really happy to see The Walking Dead walk home a winner. It just goes to show that Indie games are powerful. As egotistical as Cliffy B can be, he's made some great points about the future of the industry.

First, we're likely moving toward solely digital distribution, and second, that will mean more power in the hands of developers to make more interesting Indie games. That doesn't mean triple A titles will disappear, but not every game idea is built for a triple A release. It will become akin to the film industry where there is a peaceful coexistence between both genres and both have equal opportunities for large scale success.

"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

Okay, let me clarify:

The Walking Dead has a great story and strong character development. It's definitely in the vein of Heavy Rain. The gameplay is absolutely horrible; it's glitchy, bland, and repetitive. It doesn't deserve GOTY because of those problems. Journey or Dishonored were more polished and less one-sided; I think they should have just picked both of them.

  • 12.08.2012 7:28 AM PDT

Dishonored or Journey should have won imo.

Wow, are you seriously saying that downloadable games don't deserve to win just because they aren't huge titles that everyone knows about?

Walking Dead deserved the win so very much.

It has nothing to do with the TV show or comics, I say give it a try.

  • 12.08.2012 8:12 AM PDT

The story is excellent, but it's gameplay is often boring with a few intense parts thrown in. That's why it shouldn't have won.

  • 12.08.2012 8:45 AM PDT

Yeah I never heard of The Walking Dead the Game either before I watched the VGA's.

  • 12.08.2012 8:50 AM PDT

Never played Walking Dead, but Far Cry 3 deserved it imo. Such a shame it came out that late.

  • 12.08.2012 8:53 AM PDT

I win, you lose, get over it!

Halo falls in that pattern.

But Walking Dead winning was a nice change of pace.
