Subject: Did ¨The hobbit¨ flop?

Fair play

Rotten tomatoes gave it a 72% out of 100%.

I don't know about you guys, but Rotten tomatoes was always accurate when it came to reviews, IMO.

I'm not saying that such an above average score is bad, it just isn't something to brag about when you have such a successful trilogy behind it.

What's opinion about it?

I'm going to invade your heart like a barn swallow high on milk chocolate and grandma love.

Fairness is only possible within the limited powers of man. Elsewhere, there is only chance.

Thus I refute thee.

I'll bring the tritium laser cutters if you bring the beer!

Funny story.

Why don't you just wait to watch it?

Per Audacia Ad Astra

YOU SHALL NOT FLOP!

  • 12.08.2012 7:55 AM PDT

I think that the 72% score is mainly because people can't help but compare it to LOTR. The Hobbit is very, very different from LOTR in tone and atmosphere and was designed to appeal more to younger audiences, so when compared to a masterpiece like LOTR it will be considered a 'flop' by some.

72% is not a flop, and it hasn't been released in the U.S yet.

Pretty much this.

I have yet to see it, but I'm 95% certain that the movie will be a huge hit for Tolkien readers who will recognize the additional lore.

Cardinal rule of Fantasy movies: don't compare them to Lord of the Rings. You will only be disappointed.

The Hobbit was destined for harsher reviews because LotR was special. You can't recapture that feel the same way, even if it does take place in the same universe.

So no, the Hobbit didn't flop, the reviewers did.

"Flop" indicates it lost money, not that its getting some mixed reviews.

It hasn't even been released where I am yet...

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

Still waiting to watch it :( hurry up damnit!

And if those of you who also haven't seen it, watch this. It'll remind you of how wrong the critics are.

  • 12.08.2012 8:06 AM PDT

hmm

Haven't watched it yet, but I'm less excited than I was before...

  • 12.08.2012 8:07 AM PDT

Haven't seen it, but I highly doubt it will be a flop. People are going to compare it to much to the LotR trilogy, but it's so different from that. I've read the book and I think it will do it justice.

Because they are children.

Even if the critics didn't like it as much as The Lord of the Rings, I'm confident the next two movies will be more successful.
[SPOILERS] We'll be seeing the return of Legolas, an iconic character from the original trilogy, in his father's kingdom in Mirkwood, we'll be seeing the return of Sauron at the Battle of Dol Guldur, and we'll see Thorin's lust for power grow stronger than his friendship for Bilbo. And of course, we'll get the Battle of Five Armies.

Hope restored. That was a great insight and I'm fully excited for the film now.

I agree that all presidents should serve 2 terms. 1 in office and 1 in prison

I'll make my own decision when I see it.

Call me Stu

Dunno yet nobody in the UK has watched it yet.

Rotten tomatoes only gives a very rough estimate of how good movies are. It is more accurate if the movie has been out for more than a year.

Pure Insanity
The point of war is not to die for one's clan, but it's to make the other bastard die for his
Right before you die, there is always a chance to save yourself, sieze that chance and live to fight another day
The best way to kill someone is to fight them with the same weapons they use and make them know you are better than them, not because of superior weaponry, but because of superior skill.
Hidden in the shadows, Clothed in camo, Armed to the teeth. Hunting.

As said above, the Hobbit was never going to be the exact same kind of thing as the Lord of the Rings.

But I'm thinking the Silmarillion needs a movie.

  • 12.08.2012 8:56 AM PDT

I don't know because it's not been released here in the UK, yet, not till I think this Friday and the tickets have already been pre-booked so I can't get to see it till next Sunday, which I'm depresed about cos I know that I'm gonna get my head filled with spoilers on here in the next week :/

  • 12.08.2012 8:58 AM PDT

I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear.

The film has been shown exactly once in cinemas, so I think it might be a bit early tell whether it flopped or not.
