Nope a bland, relativley uninteresting game with only one section that's fun, pisspoor gunplay, and zero character development doesn't deserve "game of the decade". However Valve fanboys are probably stupider than COD ones so they'll show up in droves and mass vote for their pile of trash.

Gamertag - Rdog 11

Call me Rdog, not RdOG or RdOG1507. I made that username when I thought it was cool to use alternating capital and lowercase letters...

Halo CE and GTA III both came out in 2001. The decade covered was 2002-2012.

Why would they do the award in 2012? Why not 2010? Such a random time period...

Rain, and Jazz.
Halo: Tactical

I'm either a fool or an inteligent man, depending on how sleepy or angry I am.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

I would say yes becasue of all the mods that have sprouted out around it.

Garry's Mod,
Black Mesa...
Hell, 100% of these games: http://store.steampowered.com/search/?snr=1_4_4__12&term= mods#category1=997&advanced=0&sort_order=ASC&page =1

Yeah, GTA3 and Halo were more important, but they're just outside of the timeframe.

I'm really surprised Resident Evil 4 wasn't included. It basically set the mold for modern third-person shooters as we know them nowadays, and it's also a great game with fantastic level design and pacing that has yet to be rivaled.

I don't think Half-Life 2 was all that important in the long run. Great game and I love it, but it didn't have the impact of something like RE4, WoW, Wii Sports, or Call of Duty 4.
Nobody has ever been more right. Resident Evil 4 SHOULD have, at least, been in the nominees, it influenced a lot of the current TPS such as Gears of War or Dead Space.

Guys, influential =/= good

For example, I thought CoD4 was a pile of mediocre trash that ruined the CoD franchise, but it was still a very influential moment in the gaming industry.

Half-Life was innovative, but not as fun as most games.

To be honest, I'd pick KOTOR 2, in terms of great games.

  • 12.08.2012 1:05 PM PDT

1. Half-Life 2
2. Mass Effect 3
3. Mass Effect 2
4. Tie between Halo 3 and CoD4
5. Medal of Honor or Spec Ops: The Line

I believe Halo: CE and GTA III came out more than 10 years ago now.

This, however they are the two most influential games of the early 2000's.

Allons-y!

I really don't think HL2 deserved GotD. It's really good, but not that good. I say Minecraft deserves that title.

I'm surprised Halo 2 wasn't up there. It basically defined this decade's multiplayer.

It put Xbox LIVE on the map.

That's how.

Along with Steam and PSN, it is the largest online gaming service, if not arguably the biggest.

I like video games, Jesus, music, and love my girlfriend. :) PM me, we'll talk.

It really was. The Half Life series(And any game by Valve, frankly) has revolutionized first person shooting games with a number of new concepts. It also helped the Halo series along.

The name's Ian, Game Designer at Whisper Game Studios, very off-and-on Bungie.net visitor and avid Bungie fan overall. Message me if you wish.

Important and Best are two very different words. In my opinion, BioShock is the BEST game of all time. Is it important? To me, yes, to the world? No. Is Half-Life 2 a fantastic game? I would say it's pretty good. Is it important?

Look at every single FPS in the past 8 years. Then look at me in the eyes and tell me with a straight face that there are no elements taken from that game and inserted in almost every shooter in the past 8 years.

Not to mention, it skyrocketed Valve's fame and profits and allowed them to build the industry to what it is today. If it weren't for Valve's success with Half-Life 2, we wouldn't have TF2, we wouldn't have Counter Strike, we wouldn't have half the games they've made. Without those games, there would have been no reason for Steam. Without Steam, the PC games industry would be shot. Without PC gaming, the industry would look a WHOLE lot different.

So yes, Half-Life 2 is the most IMPORTANT game of the Decade. Not the best in my idea of the best game, but it damn near changed the industry for the better.

Inappropriate. Went a little to far with the butt hole tearing.

Half-Life was extremely influential, but I don't see Half-Life 2 in the same light.
