- During the mid to late middle ages? Not all of them, but the majority are. With the exception of sci-fi RPG's, which there aren't many of.

Red Dead is more like an adventure game. A borderline RPG. Fallout 3 is a sci-fi RPG, which is an example of a game which there aren't many of.

Yet the three Final Fantasy games I listed are RPG games not set in the time period you specified.
