Subject: Why was master chief not VGA character of the year?

Only a million people read the books, what are you going to do about the other group of people (which is far bigger than the former) that don't read the books? You can't shove the books lore down their throat, no one is going to bother with the game if that's the case. You got a find a way to make it worthwhile to the people who aren't Sci-Fi Nerds.

They developed chiefs character in the books alot which is canon, therefore giving him more depth than that and taking away that whole "youre supposed to be the master chief" thing. Where have you been? Fall of Reach, First Strike and The Flood already established his character long ago.

because they ruined him in halo 4.
... or you simply fail to appreciate wonderfully implemented character development.

OT: Claptrap is a funny little robot, but he can hardly compete with MC as "best character".

This. We didn't get Master Chief. We got some Drama Queen that can't shut up.

Lol, ok. Haters be hatin'.

He has a story established in Halo 4. You hardly knew anything about the Chief in the first three games. Sure, a player is going to teabag the grunt anyways, but now it feels less like the player is in the experience. Now it just feels like having to have The Chief do it instead of doing it yourself. They took away making you feel apart of the world. You can't become him anymore because now he's somebody else, and that takes away the immersion. Immersion is what separates games from movies, and now I'm not immersed at all.

And please try to keep the name calling at bay. If you can't control your anger, I'm not going to give you the time of day.

Doesnt matter idiot. Nothing is stopping the player from acting like an idiot if he wants to or teabagging corpses or whatever ridiculous -blam!- you like. But you dont step inside his shoes and become him anymore. Not completely. Hes already has his own established backstory and personality.

Just remember that no matter how terrible you feel, or how much you want to let go, there are people who care about you and love you.

some robot -blam!- piece of -blam!- who I doubt has any development.
You obviously have never played/watched/heard about Borderlands...

Character of the year was actually an award that fans could vote on. Clearly more people thought Claptrap deserved it.
Which absolutely boggles me. Claptrap is not even a well developed character, alone a main character. He's just... There, and forced. Clearly the polls of the VGAs were running rampant with autism.

I've read all the books before Cryptum came out. I know about Master Chiefs story and personality. But you have to think about the people who don't read the books. There majority of the Halo community that plays the game doesn't read the books, they're jumping into Halo 4 right where Halo 3 left off with no idea about Chiefs back story that wasn't explained in Halo CE, 2, or 3. He's going to look like a chatterbox to them cause of what they got in the previous games.

During Cortana's rampancy I expect some emotion between the two yes, but nothing that was out of the ordinary from what we got. When Johnson died, there as emotion, a loss for Chief, it just wasn't spoken. I'm not hating on the campaign, but 343i is trying to force the Books on us cause you're not going to understand a lot of what's going on without the books. And that's going to turn people off. Which is ultimately why people did not like Halo 4's story.

Im not angry you just sounded stupid in your previous post. Regardless, chief already had an established story and personality before ODST even came out. Regardless whether or not you've read the books or not his character was already established in them.

And master chief wasnt even all that different. He talked a little more, yes, but not to the point where hes completely chatty or saying dumb immature things like the spartan 4s. He showed emotion more because his closest living friend and partner was dying.

He talked to her more to try and comfort and control her growing rampancy. And at the end, he felt crushed and defeated because he felt that he failed to do his duty, to protect cortana which he was tasked with ever since CE as well as protect his last living friend.

Did you expect him to say okay and walk away calmly without a care when cortana said she wasnt going with him?

Halo 2 was the best Halo game
A7x FoREVer!

As a fan of both Halo and Borderlands, I'm glad Claptrap won. Gearbox took him to another level in BL2. I feel like Chief is a great character, but lets be honest, this is the 4th game hes stared in. How many times would Mario win if he was nominated each year? The fan vote/celeb vote/every other vote would be towards him.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

Because there was a bad script.

^This.
The contest was really close between the two, but Claptrap triumphs over Master Chief due to his comedic actions, his hilarious one-liners, and that feeling you get whenever you see or hear him. He really made the game. Of course, Handsome Jack really deserved it but he won Best Male Performance so it's not biggy.

Ah yes, giving a character an emotional side that we've never seen. He needs to stay a hardcore silent military god.

No

He doesn't need to stay the silent type, but really, his emotional side just...fell flat. 343 really isn't that great at writing.

Anyway, OP, (I haven't checked the VGAs, but I'll assume that the winner was Claptrap) Claptrap was a fantastic character in Borderlands 2. He easily deserved it more so than Master Chief.
His emotional side fell flat because it was meant to, they were soldiers bred from children, they aren't going to have much of a personality now are they?

Forever praise Lord Jesus Christ, The Father, The Holy Spirit, the one true Lord Almighty God, and bless all forever in His holy name :)

And the VGA character of the year award goes to...
*sips coffee out of master chief mug.*
Clap Trap!
*spits coffee everywhere*
*passes out*...

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

Claptrap was about the only thing I liked about Borderlands.
