Subject: Question For Americans

I'm going off of American Media here so bear with me

how come when you are with a friend or girlfriends parents why do you always call them 'Sir' and 'Ma'am' ? it makes you look stupid as -blam!-

  • 12.08.2012 2:08 PM PDT

Respect?

  • 12.08.2012 2:09 PM PDT

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

It's respectful and makes their parents think their son/daughter isn't dating/hanging out with a rude -blam!-.

Gather around the campfire, once it goes out, it's out for good.

Better to be considered stupid than it is to be considered disrespectful.

I really cannot see how it makes them look stupid. It's polite if anything.

  • 12.08.2012 2:10 PM PDT

I had no idea respect was stupid. You should join the American Military, I heard they hate respect.

This is now my main account. My former account was xKingGhidorahx. I've been on this site since 2009.

What country are you from?

We all wear masks and the time comes when we cannot remove them without removing our own skin.

I call them by their name, not sir or mam. If they don't like it, tough luck, because I'm -blam!-en their daughter already and don't care how they view me.

"When I joined the Corps, we didn't have any fancy-schmanzy tanks. We had sticks! Two sticks, and a rock for the whole platoon—and we had to share the rock!"

-Sgt. Johnson

I'm sorry for acting so stupid sir.

OT: Aside from the obvious fact that you're trolling, it's out of respect.

Dumb people are just blissfully unaware of how very dumb they are.

It's more of a southern thing. My mom grew up calling her dad Sir and still does it to this very day.

The Internet is an empowerment tool that's agnostic; it doesn't care about race, gender, or age.

Bungie doesn't like French on their site.

I say Mrs. Mr. or Miss. When in that situation. And Sir with someone will authority. Like a teacher, boss, kinda deal.

Ya dig?

What do they do wherever you're from, OP?

  • 12.08.2012 2:12 PM PDT

Well, I've been economical with the truth.

Here in Aus I usually call them by their name, or call them mate.

Genuinely interested: how exactly does that sound dumb? I realize it's probably a culture thing, but I want to know exactly.

  • 12.08.2012 2:23 PM PDT

I am a monument to all your sins

I don't. I call them Mr., or Mrs. whatever, unless they tell me to call them by their first name. Anyway its a politeness thing, maybe people are less formal where you come from, but that's how it is in America, at least with people you want to give a good impression too.

  • 12.08.2012 2:25 PM PDT

Societal norms and all that -blam!-.

I am thinking of an old story. "Three Billy Goats Gruff" (hint the troll dies at the end)

If you had an electron microscope, you still couldn't find the -blam!- I don't give.

I ussally say Mr. Soandso and Miss Soandso

Culture. It's a sign of respect, at least here in Texas.

  • 12.08.2012 2:32 PM PDT

What if I told you...

*scoots in closer*

I hate you
