If they can't make a decision internally, that just shows me that they're directionless and their heart isn't in it.
Or maybe they want to see what most of their fanbase would prefer and then make that.

If they make it a sequel, they'd probably have it later in the time line and follow a new character and what not.

Yeah, more than likely Shepards time is over.
Maybe they could make the protagonist Shephard's kid with whoever you had a romance with. But if you didn't have one then I don't know.
Or, we could move to other parts of the franchise universe to see how big it really is.

See the Elder Scrolls games to see how this is done. Never once do you play the same character when a sequel comes out.

Though you do see your Oblivion character in Skyrim (if you have played the Shivering Isle DLC from Oblivion you should get what I mean).

Pandering to an audience never makes art that's worth experiencing.

Perhaps you should read the article before jumping to conclusions?

Eh, opinion. They're only asking if we want a sequel or prequel. It's not like there giving us direct control over what else is going to be in it.

It's plausible that they have ideas for both a sequel and prequel already.

Yeah, I saw that on the wiki and thought it was cool.

I vote Sequel because their must be some kind of conflict after ME3 and enough to go off but then again they could go with a Prequel based on one of the novels but I have never read any of them.

The conflict after ME3 could be, with no big threat to unite against, the different species start an arms race a la Cold War type deal. And the factions could constantly try to gain upper hand over the other factions.

different endings of ME3
Like that even matters. The only thing that would change depending on ME3's ending would be if people have green squiggles on them or not.

There was no big threat to unite against at the beginning of ME and yet all the races were non-hostile.

Not true. In fact if you choose the 4th ending (yes there is a 4th, I have just never done it; hence why I didn't include it) the Reapers win and the Stargazer at the end is not a human but of a different, unknown species.

But I really don't see how they can make ME4 a sequel, what with the different endings of ME3. Can anyone figure out how they would accomplish this?
Simple. Make one of the endings canon, and go from there.

I would like this idea, if it were ME1-era Bioware developing it.

But since we're dealing with EAware here, I don't think they'll be able to handle a plot like this.

Bungie.Match.com: Our Johnson knows what the ladies like.

Make it about that one war when the Humans and the Turians meet.

So the world might be mended...

It could easily be a sequel, set it into Stargazers time. New big threat.

Honestly...I want a sequel. Yes, it will be hard to pull it off, and may take a very long time to make (if, and I hope, they actually make major changes to the game based on what ending you picked in ME3)But I would love to see what happens after the war.

  • 12.08.2012 8:32 PM PDT

Sequel. I have no interest in playing a prequel, because Mass Effect without the Reapers... Well.

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

Make it a prequel that covers the exploits of Anderson's N7 days.

why a murder train?Well, The Blues revolve around trains, and I'm trying to be Blues-y about it.
I think a t-rex sounds better, I mean Murder T-rex. just think about it.
This made my day.

I think they should have the new game run parallel to the first three games, perhaps allowing you to play as another Spectre or N7 operative.

Here is your sauce, sir.

They just make one ending the real canon one. They did it before, otherwise the campaign would be so short because of all the branchings of the story taking up space
