Alright guys, it's time for my first movie review that really disappointed me. If it's too long for you to read, then scroll down and read the final verdict if you care.
Dreamwor- oh, I mean Pixar's new film "Brave" was one of the most disappointing films this year. Now here's why.
1. It did NOT feel like a Pixar film. It felt more like a Dreamwork's film; not that there's anything wrong with Dreamwork's, but I was expecting to watch a Pixar film. Even if you don't think if felt like a Dreamwork's film, I just can't see it being a Pixar film... I could go on and on with this argument but I'll just let it be and move on to the next point.
2. It was cliché. "A Pixar movie being unoriginal?!!" you say. But yes it was pretty cliché. We have a princess who's rebellious and loves archery and adventure and crap (haven't seen that before) but her mom *gasps* WANTS HER TO BE A RESPECTFUL PRINCESS!! Wow! Good job Pixar! Her mom decides to hold a contest to help pick out a prince for her, much to the princess's dismay causing her to rebel. This causes an argument between the two and the mom throws her bow into the fire causing her to cry and run away into the forest. Trust me, it gets more cliché but if you haven't seen the movie yet, I won't spoil anymore... not that there's anything worth spoiling...
3. Now this movie did have potential, even with it's cliche'd themes, it did have potential in the first 30 minutes of the film, so it was a shame that the film fell into shambles by the end. I walked into the film hoping to see a big adventure movie, well it's not. The plot is overly simple. I was irritate, Pixar painted the main character as this bad-ass archer and I was expecting to her to use that skill throughout the movie. WRONG! The movie turns out to be a freaking drama about the girl trying to mend her relationship with her mother... really Pixar? There's nothing wrong with dramas, I love films like Little Miss Sunshine, Forest Gump, etc. But watching the first 30 minutes of the film you're hoping to get an adventure. Well too bad.
Final Verdict:
The animation, for any Pixar film, is stunning and it was a lot better than Cars 2. The movie did have potential and I thought that the first 30 minutes of the film was alright. But after that the movie was just overly flawed and cliche. I was hoping to see a big adventure movie, but instead I got shown a big drama film. Sorry Pixar, first Cars 2 and now Brave... *sighs* Let's hope the Monsters Inc. sequel will be good.
1.5/4 stars
