I've never been too sure on what it actually is, Is it music made on independent labels? I once read somewhere that Nick Drake was the "king" of indie music and i'm a huge Nick Drake fan so I want to know. Does it have anything to do with "underground"? But Decca had stuff like Tinkerbell's Fairydust on it, I honestly don't have a clue what indie music is, Enlighten me with words, Not with sound.

But that sounds more like psychedelic folk to me.

So it can be any genre? So pop albums on Marmalade like Blossom Toes are considered "indie"?

Welcome, welcome to city 17...

well it's literally defined as music put out on an independent record label. but it tends to be that nonsense that hipsters listen to

Yes it can.

See it as a grassroots music movement, or sorts. I think it's more gone to local artists as well, doing their own thing, not necessarily attached to a label. When I think Indie, I automatically think Indie Rock/pop music. Mumford and Sons, Dan Mannigan, etc.

But I spoke to a group of "hipsters" and they didn't even know the label middle earth or even semi underground stuff like fallout and radioactive.

indie music > mainstream music

People like you make me mad.
Indie =/= good.
Mainstream music =/= bad.

In fact the artist/band probably went mainstream because they're popular (hence good).

Indie music consists of 1 actually good band who refuses to sell out for every 1,000 (being generous there) who just suck too bad to get any attention from a label. Listening to it exclusively/wearing a false sense of superiority for listening to it makes you a total ponce.

So it's based more around how you look and act, Not completely on the sound?
