You bring up a good point, Rockdale. I typed up a bit on that same thing in the post where I talked about his hype but I deleted it because I don't want to think about that. From what I heard, Kyle Field was absolutely silent when he had that scare against Mizzou.

I don't want to think about it either but it;s a possibility. Look at Marcus Lattimore. (I <3 21)

That's all I have to say about that.

How can you be sure Manziel has 3 more seasons in college? What if in the off season he suffers some injury and can never play football again? Then in his 1 season where he broke many records he didn't get the Heisman because "He's only a freshman he'll have more chances" when he never will again. Then what? He was statistically a better QB than anyone else in the country and personally I think the only reason Te'o was there was because he lost he Grandmother and girl friend and then had a good game against an overrated Michigan State team that threw him into the spotlight. He played well but not as good as Johnny Manziel.

I think you have reached the core of the Te'o hype. He suffered a tragic loss this year, and performed well for a team that has reached the national championship game. The media and ESPN talking heads eat that kind of -blam!- up. They didn't care who was the best, just who was the better story.

People overlook the fact that he's can pass well because he's a phenomenal running QB. Dude's only a freshman and is already a dual threat QB. His passing game will only get more refined as his college career progresses. Anyone that's paid attention to him at all this season knows that he's more than just a "running QB."
I'm not questioning his ability to throw at all. I'm an Auburn fan and everyone said the exact same thing about Cam. What would absolutely make the difference in Johnny Football, for me, would to see his football IQ at an Elite level. Yes, he is a Freshman (well, redshirt anyways) so the one thing he can improve on more than anything else is his understanding of the game, defenses, audibles, and decision making in general (if A&M lets him). Most of the highlights they were showing was Johnny improvising. Having the ability to improvise is ideal but he shouldn't be improvising late wins. He should only have to improvise when he has to, not 50% of the time. That's another thing Cam Newton did too!

His improv skills come from having a high football IQ. That he can turn a turd of a play into a chunk of gold shows that he's a great player. Refinement will come. Look for RG3's success and expect JFF to surpass it.

My friends are currently joking that he took our luck so we're all doomed on our exams. They also have the bus driving around campus playing Johnny Go, or something like that.

I don't follow these kinds of things closely (or really at all), but he did seem like a good candidate to win.

Too bad Heisman winners never win Super Bowls or do good.

Charles Woodson is still playing and has won a Super Bowl.

Go Blue.

I went to look for the others because I was curious since I only knew the Packers players off the top of my head. Weirdly, every time the Packers won the Super Bowl they had a Heisman Trophy winner on their team.

Yup. Desmond Howard, Heisman and Super Bowl MVP.

Go Blue

I don't think T'eo was there because of his emotional tragedies by any means. I think that was part of the drive caused him to play so hard and so well this season.

And you also mention the Michigan State game. I think that if you subtract the Alabama game from A&Ms season, T'eo wins the Heisman. That is the game that sealed the deal for Johnny Football. I was quite shocked, actually.

And I am not putting Manziel by any means! This has been the best season ever by an offensive player and he deserves it. To put things in a different perspective; if you took T'eo's season and threw him into a different Heisman race in the last decade (except maybe Cam Newton) he would win, hands down.

It took RG3 3 years to put out what he produced last year. Manziel produced much more than RG3 last year and has already surpassed it.

That is cool a Freshman would win it and he deserved it to. Although the ND player (can't spell his name) is who I would have voted for

Honestly I don't feel that he had that great of a season. Sure he had a good few picks but other than that his stats were kinda meh.

Yea he didn't have the greatest stats, but if you watch ND play every game (like myself) he doesn't a hell of a lot for the #1 defense in college football. He could rush the passer if he was asked to, but he wasn't. His job was to hold the middle of the field at all costs. When he couldn't make a play of the ball, he distrupted the play everytime so somebody else could make the tackle. Its also quite easy for an offense to completly remove one defender from a game. He had 8 tackles in the first quarter alone against Oklahoma. A spread offense that is supposed to completly remove a LB from a game right off the bat. When an offense runs the ball, they have to instantly spot out Teo and block him at all costs. That's not easy for a defender to overcome.
Jarvis Jones of Georgia had a great amount of sacks and tackles for loss and is a great pass rusher. However when he was run at, he could not get off blocks and looked lost at times. In the NFL he will be a 3rd down LB and that is all, because he is not asked to cover tight ends and running backs.

Johnny "Football" had a total of 3 touchdowns again his top three opponets. Florida and LSU made him look silly (and lost), while Alabama just looked like they never defended a running QB before. I presonally think Bama is totally overrated this year as well. Their schedule was easy as heck and their signature win was against and LSU team that is also not all that amazing this year. Their horrid offense walked all over Bama's D and were lucky LSU didn't put up more.

I'm not saying Johnny doesn't diserve it, but let's be honest. He won it because he beat Alabama and his stats were padded against terrible teams. What happens if ND beats Bama in the NC? Should Manti Teo have won the Hiesman then? Probably.

I will also add that Johnny was not even considered for the Heisman untill he beat Bama. that should tell you something about the reward. Very dissapointed with the award these days.

Strength of Schedule Rankings:

1. Oregon State
2. Stanford
3. Alabama
4. Texas A&M
...

...
24. Notre Dame

It's ok though; I don't expect most ND fans to know that. Te'o's entire Heisman campaign was built on intangibles.

If Klein had a decent game against Baylor (even if KState still lost) he probably would've still won it but he didn't. He played downright terrible against a bad Baylor defense.

With the amount of national press JFF created and the fact that he managed to turn a good amount of tu fans to support A&M shows that he definitely deserves the Heisman.

I agree Freckle. Like I said, if Klein didn't have a bad game against Baylor, he would have probably won it. I put him in front of Te'o for sure. My bias towards Manziel obviously affects my judgement but if Klein had won, I would not have been as irritated as I would have been if Te'o had won.

Butt ugly ape” remarked Sergeant Johnson always making fun out of the situation even though he had been hit by a spiker round in the arm. He mustered up the strength to continue and the team moved on. The Arbiter informed him that the next room held The Prophet of Truth and this was the final room before extraction. Jun proposed that he takes a shot from a distance the prophet and they all head back to the ship bay for extraction. The team agreed on this and breached the last door…

Please. Anyone who thinks Alabama or A&M played the 3rd and 4th best schedules are fooling themselves. SEC lovefest is sick and nobody seems to point out that Bama (and most other SEC schools) played two FCS schools. One of them being Western Carolina. A team that had a grand total of ONE win all season against a school known as Mars Hill.

I know you are probably going to point out Michigan as being a common enemy, but you can't compare teams from the beggining of the season to the end. That's just stupid and no team plays exactly the same all year.
Your next argument will be Pitt. Yea, we played horrible, but we won. A&M did not win against Florida and LSU. Infact they were killed.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble on your programs biggest win in history, but it was against an Alabama team that is just not what it has been. They are where they are because of their schedule and if you really think that they have the 3rd best SoS in college football, then I will not continue this conversation, because you have no idea what you're talking about.

I guess I wouldn't expect an SEC fan to understand anything about football up north.

  • 12.09.2012 11:25 AM PDT

Notre dame had a harder SOS than both bama and a&m. That's a fact

You bring up a good point, Rockdale. I typed up a bit on that same thing in the post where I talked about his hype but I deleted it because I don't want to think about that. From what I heard, Kyle Field was absolutely silent when he had that scare against Mizzou.

Yeah, when he went down literally the whole stadium was silent for a good minute. Then we started chanting "Johnny" until he got up and walked off the field.

Probably in my top 5 most memorable 12th Man moments.

Also, I can't see why a defensive player could win the Heisman. The Heisman should go to they player who is so notable or talented that they gain a national fanbase and notoriety. Manti didn't have that, he was a good player for sure, but he wasn't Heisman tier for a defensive player. A&M (and many other schools) have some defensive players with roughly equal stats...

Reminds me of when Lattimore got hurt. The whole stadium started chanting "Let's go Marcus." That was hard to watch...
