Shakes Magic 8 Ball

Games like Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, Glover, or something more modern like Comic Jumper. Why have they become vapidly unpopular? Growing up playing games, these were the games to play. They stimulated you through solving puzzles and overcoming obstacles; usually in this delightful world that you immerse yourself in.

Does nobody appreciate them as much as people did before? I remember when Mario 64 was the game during it's launch.

I'm not so good with advice...Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

Because anything without a multiplayer is "outdated".

The platforming genre hasn't died, it's just not THE genre like it was back in the day.

Nowadays, it's all about the FPS genre, but it's reign won't last long.

Because they were essentially what FPS's are today. Oversaturated.

They didn't really die, they're in kind of a weird state though. 2D platformers are still around. We've got New Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Country Returns, LittleBigPlanet series, Rayman Origins, Super Meat Boy, and a ton of other indie platformers.

3D ones on the other hand, are basically dead. The only ones that still come out are the 3D Mario titles, I really can't think of anything else from the last three or four years besides maybe the last Alice game. Real shame too.

Check out:

-Braid
-World of Goo
-Mark of the Ninja

There are tons more. Most indie games these days are platformers.

My computer is on hiatus, and some platformers just feel more organic to me to be played on a console. Others... Not.

All three of those are available on the Xbox Live marketplace I believe, and they're all fantastic, particularly Braid.

Soul of the mind, key to life's ether
Soul of the lost, withdrawn from its vessel
May strength be granted so the world might be mended...
So the world might be mended...

World of Goo is a platformer? I always saw it as a puzzle game...
