Been with Bungie since 1996, and no plans of leaving.

I recently found interest in the original Pre-NXE dashboard on older 360s, so I went on eBay to find myself one. I found one for a decent price, but it was broken with the standard 3 red light. In the auction, the seller said that the motherboard has had an attempted reflow, but it didn't fix it. So i watched a few youtube videos on it which involved a heat gun and an xclamp replacement. Should I be worried about this? This is my first RROD 360 repair.

Have you ever worked with electrical components?

You're gonna need a few towels.

in·dif·fer·ence
the fact or state of being indifferent; lack of care or concern and empathy demonstrated by an absence of emotional reactions.

Depends on your technical aptitude.

Heavy weighs the crown, low hangs the head who wears it.

I wouldn't buy that one. (ball grid array re-flows are almost never successful anyway)

I've fixed a couple by taking the heatsinks (and xclamps) off, cleaning out the dust, applying new thermal paste, and then jamming the fans to force a reset, but it doesn't always work.

I also wouldn't recommend you try that as your first "repair".

Yes, but not much.

I tried fixing my 2007 model in the past before buying a new one. It did not work out at all. I ended up cutting myself up really badly, so take extreme precautions when attempting to -blam!- with a Xbox 360.

Link or it didn't happen.

I would say just grab the HDD out of it, but I think it's embedded into the mobo. Did the seller say if the board was fragged or not? Typically all of those "wrap a towel around it" solutions have a chance to just melt the board.

Yes, not that much though.

What is wrong with the 360 can really vary. You have to make sure that what your fixing is what's wrong.

Also, if whoever sold you the 360 attempted a reflow but didn't have success might have fried the motherboard completely, so double check before you waste time and possibly money.
