Halo 4 Mantis

District 9 Mech

Now, for those who don't know, the director of District 9, Neil Blomkamp, was supposed to make a Halo film, but the project collapsed and he ended up making his own original film.

Does anyone think the Mantis is some sort of homage of the Mech in District 9, to honor the director who wanted to make a Halo film so badly?

The fact that it's called a "Mantis" helps give evidence it's a homage for District 9, as the aliens in that film look somewhat like a humanoid praying mantis.

Talking about Sweden is an ultrabannable offense.

Too bad being completely and utterly wrong isn't a bannable offense.

Actually, that's pretty plausible.

As soon as I read the title I realized how true the comparison is.

Good find OP.

You're probably right, but the D9 mech looks way cooler.

Just remember that no matter how terrible you feel, or how much you want to let go, there are people who care about you and love you.

On the outside, the two machines are very similar.

Both machines are structurally impractical as hell though.

I disagree here, the aliens in District 9 were called Prawns which is a lot more accurate than Mantis.

Their faces certainly looked more like prawns, but I think that name was meant more for the fact that they were dirty, scavenging bottom feeders. Plus the aliens' body resembles a praying mantis more, with those little arm things.

Eh, kind of... I suppose...

But, I kind of what to pick on the Mantis right now... so I circled everything on it that makes no sense.

I can't find nearly as many faults in the D9 Machine.

Wait, could you explain those faults? Because you circled the guns and the knee joints, and I'm kind of confused.

I win, you lose, get over it!

Should have been based off the Guren or the Lancelot instead.

There is no storage on the Mantis for ammunition, all of it's weapons are ammunition based which makes the Mantis rather useless in long durations, (Realistically.) From a game viewpoint, the arms do not move independently from the torso, so why not just attach the weapons to the torso directly? Why have fragile arms? Arms on mechs tend to be the first things to get blown off.

The knee joints (Like all of the joints on the Mantis) are way too thin and have no armor at all. Realistically, I'm fairly certain the mantis would snap in half when shot with anything heavier than a Sniper Rifle.

I'm very picky with mechs...

@trueunderdog

Chapter

Narwhallace Smithington: Gone, but not forgotten. Never approve of anything lil guy. <3
Furious George: The new -blam!-

Picky with mechs? What makes a good mech then because mechs in general are objects of poor design.

They do look similar, now that you mention it. I never saw District 9, so it never occurred to me.

By picky, I more or less meant biased...

But I really don't see this breaking in half very quickly.
