Smoking needs to be banned in all public places. Not because it's bad for the smoker but because of second-hand smoke and people with asthma or breathing problems. If you wanna die from cancer and live a short life, that's fine by me but I wanna live a long and healthy life and not worry about being around your disgusting smoke.

If you're talking about restaurants then you don't have to eat there. It's there business and if they want smokers they can have them. At work there should be a designated area.

Agreed, but they SHOULD have a smoker/non-smoker room, so it won't be harmful for the other customers

I know everything, I've just forgotten most of it.

Also, my XBL Gamertag is 'Wenggh', not 'A Stolen Fruit'.

They do this here in New Zealand too I believe.

We have enough medical research, and quitting plans/products that there's no excuse to think that you're doing nothing wrong by smoking.

Both yourself and the government share the same delusion: that people are not aware of the damage they are doing when they are smoking. The issue is actually far deeper than that. These people know what they are doing, they simply do not care. I ask,who are you to tell them they should?
Because this is Australia, where we aren't so arrogant as to believe that freedom is a right given to us directly by god to do whatever we want, even if it means harming others and being a detriment to society.

It's the same reason why we regulate guns, alcohol and many other things.

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

I don't smoke, but ads do tend to over-exaggerate.

The human element always mucks things up.

Wowzers that is totally unnecessary.

They've had similar pictures on cig packets in the UK for years. Most smokers see them as a bit of a joke.

Smoking has to be one of the most disgusting habits / addictions ever. If someone wants to light up, that's there problem. But when they start smoking in public areas, that becomes my problem too. I really don't get why marijuana is illegal (although I've never even tried it, but regardless) and smoking isn't. Like, dafuq? It needs to be banned already.

Or why suicide is illegal and smoking isn't even though it's a near guarantee that you'll kill yourself if you smoke regularly.

Right? I guess the government would rather see someone die a long, slow, painful death over many years than a quick one. Those sadistic bastards.

Legalize it!!!!!

Only around 50% of smokers die from smoking so it's not really "a near guarantee".

Six million people a year is still way too much.

And how many of the other 50% contracted a severe debilitating disease?

I went outside today. The graphics were AMAZING. The gameplay WASN"T.

Maybe I should cry for help
Maybe I should kill myself
Blame it on my ADD baby

I feel it hypocritical for them to only do this for smoking. Not fast food, alcohol or prescription medicines.

IIRC they were going to do that but it never got past discussion stage.

Either way, I feel like it is a waste of effort, time and money to try and get it passed.

People will still eat/drink/smoke/take pills if they want to. A picture won't change it.

But it may stop some people from wanting to. May.
