Subject: Do people really think Halo 4 soundtrack is bad?

Yes, it is not memorable at all. For some reason a lot of people say that 117 is their favorite track and that one is the only one that even resembles anything from Marty's masterpieces. Go figure...

inb4 you try to prove me wrong. Lol.

Oh Yes!

It's not bad. I like the Remix OST better.

It wasn't bad but it wasn't that good either.

Stupid ass washing machine...

Agreed about 117, OP. I was getting dressed to it today and every button felt like a lifelong achievement.

117, To Galaxy, Nemesis, Immaterial, Awakening, Revival, Arrival, Legacy, Requiem...

Pretty much the whole soundtrack is brilliant.

You can't compare the two composers, but in my opinion they're on par.
This. My only complaint is that the music wasn't loud enough.

Idiot can be a hard language to learn, but once you get it down, everything becomes so clear! The whole world will make sense to you.

Faithless is such an awesome theme for the Covenant.

No its just that the previous halo soundtracks just set my expectations too high.

Halo 4's soundtrack is my second favourite. I prefer ODST.

To counter this, at the start of the second mission where you emerge out of the crash site, I turn my volume all the way up. Requiem is one of the best tracks in the series, every time I replay that moment I still get goosebumps.

Marty made great music, but calling them master pieces anymore than Davidge's is a huge stretch. Davidge was never trying to be Marty, he was going for a different style, a more cinematic style, better fitting Halo 4's more cinematic style.

You can't compare the two.

I never tried to compare the two. derp. Its not a strech. And good for whatever the other guy was going for, I dont give a -blam!-, but the end result was not a soundtrack as good as the ohter one. Deal with it.

Pretty much this.

People just toss around statements like "it's generic" so much, it's simply not true. The only track that even comes close to that is Ascendancy.

Belly of the Beast, Requiem, Legacy, Haven, Solace, To Galaxy, 117, Revival, Nemesis and green & Blue are some of the best tracks in the series. Legacy is the first track in 8 years to topple In Amber Clad from the top spot for me.

Davidge did a fantastic job. I genuinely felt like I was on an odyssey of orchestral brilliance, and despite the range of musical emotion from alien electronics to bittersweet violins and choirs, the Halo 4 OST feels like one solid, living, breathing, entity. I found the music tapped into a deeper, contrasting set of emotions, filled with dread, and a far off sense of hope.

That is what Halo 4's story set out to deliver, that's what it accomplished.

Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo

I found the soundtrack to be underwhelming. After listening through the entire album, I never thought to myself that it was bad, but it wasn't exceptionally good either. Nothing stood out to me (except for "117"), the entire album just felt bland and "colorless," I didn't get chills like I did with the previous themes from Halo.

Am I the only one that thinks ODST's soundtrack is overrated? I thought it was alright but I prefer the main games waaay more.

ODST's soundtrack, like Halo 4, took a completely different thematic and atmospheric tone to fit a different style of storytelling and narrative direction. The film-noir influence, mixed with things like the ambient sounds of rain and all that, built something words simply cannot be articulated in such a way that I could ever do the OST justice.

I see, I guess it's just a personal preference then. I prefer the more epic, loud, heroic themes than the more subdued and noir-style themes.

Halo 3

The music sucks, just like the game itself.

I thought it was clear there was a strong consensus on this. No need to make a thread to re-validate this.

"Insert generic signature here"

It's not bad.

It's actually pretty good.

>DAT 117
>DAT Nemesis
>DAT BotB
>DAT chorus on Revival
>DAT To Galaxy

Only complain, it's too short.

Now let's get down to business, I don't got no time to play around, what is this?

It was okay, but not spectacular. I'm not a Marty "fanboy", but the music from Bungie's Halos is far more memorable to me. Halo 2/3's music, some of Reach's and the original Halo theme is so iconic.

That's because you've had 11 years for those nostalgic memories to manifest themselves inside your head so the second you hear, say, In Amber Clad, you immediately remember the 'Nothing But Jackal' segment of Halo 2's Delta Halo mission. Halo 4 is 1 month and 3 days old, it's obviously not going to have quite as much of a profound effect on you right now, but in the years to come it will integrate itself into your memory.

The scene I always bring up in Halo 4 as truly unforgettable is the opening segment of Requiem where you're in the wreckage of the Dawn, making your way through the debris and caves while the music begins to rise from its sombre and slow build-up, and then as the scene opens up to a vista of shifting spires the music follows suit - exploding into a harmonious choir which recaptures that kind of feeling you got back in Halo CE when you first set foot on Installation 04.

Requiem is one of those tracks, like In Amber Clad, which just defines what Halo is about. Ancient alien structures, massive vistas, and a sense of discovery.

The music in Halo 4 is incredible, they could have taken the easy way out and recycled most of the Halo music, AGAIN, but they didn't. They did their own thing, and you know what? It was freaking amazing and felt like a continuation of Halo's music instead of a rehash. I loved the hell out of it and 343 has amazed me.

  • 12.09.2012 11:38 AM PDT

Anyone else see the total length of the soundtrack?

I believe it's 1 hour 17 minutes long, 1:17, according to some video.

I see what you did there, Davidge.
