117 was the only OST in Halo 4 that was actually memorable.

Pass the controller bro

This again? The soundtracks are what they are, everyone has their personal opinion on them.

People are just incredibly butthurt that it's not Marty that composed it.

The soundtracks are good.

Really? And all this time here I was, thinking I just prefer Marty's music to Neil's.

Why do some people have to make an excuse for anything they disagree with? It's hilarious. Keep making that -blam!- up, just so you don't accidentally learn anything.

I <3 Halo:Reach - amazingly fun and best campaign + amazing Soundtrack
I <3 Halo 3:ODST - best soundtrack + Firefight + Coastal Highway and Mombassa Streets, amazingly unique campaign.
I <3 Halo 3 - best multiplayer levels + Forge + best Custom Games + soundtrack
I <3 Halo 2 - amazing huge fun campaign + soundtrack + Fun multiplayer
I <3 Halo: CE - started it all

Its definitely not bad, but only like 4 songs out of the entire track stick out, but those 4 are like really really good.

Playing the final mission near the end whee you have to plug in Cortana to overload the didacts shields, and the the background music makes it just makes it so heroic feeling.

  • 12.09.2012 11:45 AM PDT

I wouldn't say that it is bad. On its own, it is a great soundtrack. In my opinion, however, when compared to previous Halo games, I don't think it is as good. Though that is like saying a 100% is better than a 97% on a test, both are good scores (no pun intended.)

  • 12.09.2012 11:47 AM PDT

I think the soundtrack is great, but not for halo. It doesn't have a whole lot of strong melodies and is too quiet compared to the epic tunes of games past. It's good, great, whatever- it just doesn't feel like halo to me. It wouldn't be out of place in another game.

This. And AFAIK it was the only track not composed by Davidge or something along those lines, right?
Davidge took the good old "cinematics" aproach, grabbed whatever orchestral instruments he could get and mistook epic for loud.

Truly, this whole debacle is stupid, for it's fanboys vs. haters, evil vs. good, a century old argument. Also, music is not objective, it's subjective. And I objectively say, that in my subjective opinion Marty's OSTs were better. And in no way it is due to the overall nostalgic feel of it, because I have quite little nostalgia for Halo 3, yet get most of the feels from it's soundtrack compared to others.

Now let's get down to business, I don't got no time to play around, what is this?

the music from Bungie's Halos is far more memorable to me.

That's because you've had 11 years for those nostalgic memories to manifest themselves inside your head so the second you hear, say, In Amber Clad, you immediately remember the 'Nothing But Jackal' segment of Halo 2's Delta Halo mission. Halo 4 is 1 month and 3 days old, it's obviously not going to have quite as much of a profound effect on you right now, but in the years to come it will integrate itself into your memory.

Perhaps, however, I've played Halo 4 through 2 or 3 times. I only played the Reach campaign about 2 or 3 times too, because I didn't really like it, but the opening cutscene where the camera pans across the burning planet, that music was so cool.

It's good, but was badly implement in campaign, that made people hate it.

What a waste....

I barely heard any music in the Campaign. I mean, sure it was in the background, but it added nothing. Just... emptiness.

The composer would be a good politician.

The Halo 4 soundtrack is amazing, in fact the sounds in Halo 4 in general is better than any other Halo to date, I do miss Marty but 343i is doing really good.

  • 12.09.2012 12:14 PM PDT

The soundtrack is FANTASTIC.

117 is probably the best track, with To Galaxy a close second for me.

I just thought it didn't fit the events of the campaign well (except 117 and the broadsword part)

I love the soundtrack. '117', 'Haven', 'Nemesis', 'Legacy', 'Revival', 'Requiem' , 'Arrival', etc. Beautiful tracks.

There's only one song I like in Halo 4's OST, and that's the one that starts playing after you crash on Requiem. Other than that, I feel spoiled with ODST's OST.

IMO, the soundtrack from Halo 4 is the best yet. The original trilogy music was fantastic, and Reach's was good too, but some tracks in Halo 4 are just amazing.

This one, 117, is quite possibly my favorite Halo track

Agreed, my favorites.

Green and blue.
Haven.
Never forget.
To Galaxy.

I think its pathetic how far bungie fanboys go to slag off these tracks just because its not a "bungie" halo.

I haven't heard the soundtrack outside of the game yet. But from what I can tell, it's very good.

Why are you here?

It's amazing, the only problem is that I wish it had more tracks.

I really do like it. It fits with Halo 4 how it should.

The main menu music, just sitting at the home screen, is simply beautiful.

Agreed. The OST is brilliant, but it's not represented well in the game. Whoever was the audio director (I'm pretty sure it was that MGS4 Japanese guy) didn't do a great job - not using Awakening in Dawn was criminal. Revival should have played the entire final segment of Forerunner (it's an 8 minute track of building trepidation, for Christ's sake!) with the heavy drum beat kicking in after the Didact descends from his Cryptum and force chokes John.

Marty wasn't just amazing in that he could compose wonderfully, but he also fit every piece of music to the moment in-game perfectly. Something that did not happen in Halo 4.

Hopefully they get a better audio director for the next game.

An end, once and for all.

As a soundtrack, it's good, but anything Marty wrote poops on it.
