Subject: 'Video Games cause Violence'

Studies have shown that violent video games only cause violence in people already prone to violent behavior. Same goes for TV.

*Ahem*

My parents believe so. I try to convince them otherwise but they're all like "no, anders breivik lol" and I'm all like "OK then be brainwashed by the media." and they're all like "go to ur room u terraced."

Ah, the internet. Where men are men, women are men, and children are the FBI.

I think, the people who are made violent by video games already have some underlying condition, so not really the game's fault.

Recon Number 54 -
If they are still looking, then while holding the snarl, I let drool start to drip from my mouth, I stand, curl my fingers into claws and with a hunched over crouch, I then make slow and deliberate steps towards them. When I get close enough, I let them hear my agonized and gasping growls and then, if they continue to stare, when I get within arm's reach? I kiss them on the nose, and run away giggling.

Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold (The kids behind the columbine massacre) were religious fans of Doom. A very violent video game. They also called themselves the "trenchcoat mafia" which was influenced by a movie they saw where Leonardo DiCaprio is depicted wearing a black trenchcoat and shooting up school classrooms.

If you look at statistics regarding rates of violent crime and the introduction of the gaming and television eras you will clearly see a correlation of a decline in crime. It is highly doubtful that video games and TV cause less criminal behavior but there are no empirical evidence whatsoever that video games create violent individuals.

The violence displayed by individuals that is a result of video game interaction is not non existent however. Video games can give a person who is already predisposed to engaging in a violent or illicit activity a methodology to replicate.

Video games don't create violence but violent people might parrot actions that they observed from other sources. The prevalence of violent TV and video game consumption vs crime rates is a clear enough example to negate any argument that decries these forums of entertainment.

Violence and video games are correlated. There is no evidence to prove that one causes the other.

Sounds like a pretty close minded and ignorant statement you made there. Why don't you provide some facts or evidence to back that up?

Go on.
Do it.

Video games are relaxing and keep serial killers confined within a basement trying to keep their K/D at a steady 4.0.

Jack of all trades, master of none.

I completely agree. Everyone who's played minecraft has used lego. Is that not proof that vidyas affect actions?

What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

I think it is true for some people. They get mad at a game then they start throwing fists around in the air like an angry dog wanting his bone.

Video games do not CAUSE violence. They inspire it, and possibly pave the way for it. However, actual violence is reliant on so much more than playing a game for a few hours.
