Any Discworld book, but Reaper Man and Hogfather are my favourites. Ever fantasy fan should read at least one Discworld book. I recommend Mort or Guards! Guards! To start.

Kandosii!

Given that you seem to love Traviss, have you read her Wess'har series? It's excellent.

The Universe demands to be noticed, to be seen, and dutifully noted.

What use all those incredible firework dimensions if no eye fixes and reflects, no brain takes notes, no heart moves with passion at the display?

NASA answers the silent cry of the Cosmos for recognition.

NASA is the witness and we fellow witnesses to the endless deeps.

Not really a book, but the Foundation series by Issac Asimov.

If you really pressed me, I would say the first Foundation though.
