Good on you man :)

Hopefully she'll overcome whatever she's going through and find happiness. Are you planning to visit or talk to her again? To check up on her?

I gave my number to the friend, but told her to promise me she would only call me if things got really really bad and to never tell her. It wouldn't be good for her to rely on me, a stranger, at this kind of time.

Why do you click that arrow?

OP, I signed in just to say this is a perfect example how the world needs people like you to help keep it happy.

You're pretty much my hero.

I was in a sort of similar situation once. It's actually scary as hell, realizing how much of an impact you can have on someone, but when you realize that someone decided to stay alive because of you it puts a whole new perspective on how you should live your life.

I won't lie to you, I didn't mean to do this to seem like a superior man, I legit did this unintentionally, and even after this, I live the same way. In other words, when your happy, spread it. When your mad, keep it in, and turn it I to something funny or make someone happy to reverse it
I agree completely. I think we've actually talked about that before no here :P

I think something like that rarely happens "intentionally." I did't even know there was in issue in my situation. I don't even remember the conversation leading up to it. I just remember being told that they were in the process of killing themselves and stopped because they felt like they'd be letting me down, because i was one of the people that were always there for them. And after that, like you said, the clear choice was just to try and be good. Because hopefully the world will return that with more good.

I didn't do it in hope of perks in the future, I just did it because its a person who needs help. If it was a hobo I'd do the same, sure I'd be hesitant, but it's a human being

For all questions with answers unknown to you, the proper procedure is to assume the answer is peanut butter.

While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.

Seriously, what's with the raft of people claiming depression and a contemplation of suicide in these forums and in the first world, is it just a hormone imbalance or teenage angst? I could be wrong, but I sincerely doubt that such a multitude of people in the plush first world would have suicidal tendencies.

Depressed =/= suicidal

Depression also has a lot to do with chemical imbalances. It's pretty much uncontrollable, but yes. A good bit of people think they're depressed, when really they're just sad. The term gets thrown around quite a bit.

I said hello as I walked by, and she said it back smiling and i said her smile was as beautiful as her eyes.

So you went to the trouble of clicking on my profile, either to send a group invite or hate message, or to check my Halo stats and call me a BK. I like Peanut Butter Waffles.

This, assuming your story is factual.

Damn. I wouldn't have the balls to say that. I can say "Hi!" or something simple like that. Eye contact + smile but then just move on. Seems a bit out of line to go for a direct compliment like that.

Reactions depend on the girl. Could creep her out, make her happy, etc.

But yeah, kudos to you.

The beta is super awesome. RogueAssassin27 is now the person who got my Totodile's nickname. Hoo-hah! Relevant.inb4lock

In all seriousness, great job. I hope that everyone in this thread has been inspired to help when given the opportunity.

I know everything, I've just forgotten most of it.

Also, my XBL Gamertag is 'Wenggh', not 'A Stolen Fruit'.

That's probably the kindest thing I've ever heard anyone do, ever.

You're an amazing person OP, keep doing what you're doing.

I don't mean that the world will be good to you in return, just that the world will be good. Like if you go through your day with a smile and a good mood and acting kindly towards others, there's a chance that they'll to the same, which may cause more to do the same, and it just spreads. It doesn't necessarily come back to help you, but it could very well be helping someone that needs it very much.

Apparently the way i live my life was enough to convince someone i care about very much to not die. Which made me realize i should be my best all the time, towards all people. Because maybe me doing that will cause someone else to do it, which will cause someone else to decide against killing themselves.

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

Ok, I'll be honest. You went the extra mile. Sure I've talked to people till the next days morning convincing them not to commit...but you did something different. You didn't become her 'pillar' you're looking at end game. I like your thinking man. Perhaps I'll try your tactics next time I have to convince a friend not to die that night.

Halo 3

You know, anime/manga teaches us a lot of about these particular kinds of ethics. That's one reason why I enjoy watching anime.
