Now I could be horribly wrong, can someone explain to me how The Collectors are relevant?

They are working for the Reapers.

But were then completely wiped out in a single game, hardly referenced, if at all, in ME3, making me feel like the whole thing was like an expansion or something.

Refer to my reply earlier in the thread.

Woops, sorry didn't see that, so could ME2 be compared to Halo 2? In that the developers had much more planned for the game but essentially had to cut a lot of it?

Not really. ME2 was everything BioWare wanted it to be at the time, falling in with the story they had planned. The problem is that, during the development of ME3, that story was replaced.

I am a monument to all your sins

Thats actually kind of a good point.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Despite being my favorite game of the 3, it had almost no point, plot-wise.

What SHOULD have happened was the Alliance finding out about the Crucible THEN, rather than at the start of 3. That way, ME1 would still be about discovering the Reaper threat. ME2 would have been about researching how to defeat them/ learn more about them. And 3 would be all about using the resources you gathered from the last 2 games, and killing the Reapers.

The problem with this is that the concept of the Crucible wasn't even conceived until AFTER Mass Effect 2 was published. The original storyline had nothing like it.

Mass Effect 2 was freaking revolutionary in terms of an RPG.

But , OP is right , I had forgotten about the Human Reaper and I wonder why it wasn't mentioned in ME3?

What are these first person words you speak of?

You're kidding right?

Broham, you walk all around it in TiM's base towards the end.

I see what you are saying, but what is the point of telling any story then? Why not just have the final level as the whole game? The narrative is what's important It exists for it's own sake.

But ME2 did not advance the over-arching narrative of the series in any way, shape or form.

No point in putting something funny, clever or informative here. Most probably im going to get perma-banned anyway.

Collectors abducting humans. No one is doing -blam!- about it. Cerberus sends Shepard. You get to know all these important characters. You stop the Collectors and destroy their human reaper larva. Reapers are still coming anyways. Thats basically it, and it made for what I believe the best game and story in the series.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

It did, it fleshed out the universe a lot. Stuff like the role of Cerberus, the Krogan, the role of the Asari and pretty much any faction. It gave depth to the universe the story was told in.

If you removed all of the depth, you end up with a single game where you just kill the bad guys without really feeling invested in it. I maintain that ME 1,2 & 3 are better for the investment players give them. You feel like you are a part of the story, instead of just playing through it.

The Reaper thing? How was it going to advance it if the Reapers were still a ways away? And the council again were retards who did not listen.

Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo

The human reaper is mentioned in ME3, it's used to power "The Invisible Man's" ship and the tech can actually be used to help aid in building the crucible.

And I think ME2 gave insight into the true intentions of The Reapers. In ME1 we knew they existed and that they wanted to wipe out all advanced lifeforms in the galaxy, but ME2 developed The Reapers as enemies, and what they were capable of doing and hinted at what their true intentions were (that was further explained at the very end of ME3).

Mass Effect 2 originally had far more relevance to Mass Effect's overarching storyline. It introduced the concept of 'dark energy,' which Drew Karpyshyn's original ending revolved around -- it was a huge part of the Reapers' motivation and existence.

Unfortunately there were shakeups within BioWare, and that ending was scrapped, making ME2 basically irrelevant. A great game - my personal favorite - but irrelevant.

This makes me angry. Damn BioWare

Death to rank junkies.

Why put spoiler warnings? It's been out for a few years now.

OT:
True, it didn't really advance the plot much, but I thought it was the most fun out of the three.

I wish they brought back infinite ammo in ME3...

While I've never liked the thermal clip explanation (why not just call it a power pack and be done with it rather than come up with "disposable heat sinks"), but the gameplay is a lot more interesting and difficult when you have to take ammo capacity into account.
