Subject: I drove on America's fastest highway this weekend, ask me anything

Hi I'm RT and I like to argue!

T4R

85 mph . . . legally! It was glorious, I tell you . . . GLORIOUS

Yeah Winter.. it's coming.

I love The Flood. It's my go to place for relaxation. If anyone needs me, then I'll be there.

Where?

  • 12.10.2012 7:16 AM PDT

What does it feel like to know you where 3 miles per hour slower than time travel?

Where?

I believe it's in Texas, but I could be wrong.

Feel free to send me messages, please be willing to wait 6-8 years for a reply.

1-7 hours if you at least tried to make it readable.

Immediately if you are Yax, Telec, or legendary.

Never if you are mythic, you guys smell funny.

That all? You get drivers going faster than that on every British motorway at night.....

But seriously, sounds fun.

Did you only go 85mph or did you go over the speed limit anyway?

I generally go a little under 10 over on pretty much any highway regardless of the speed limit, so I doubt that would change on an 85mph speed limit or even a 100mph speed limit road.

Correct.

Our highway speeds in Texas are awesome. West Texas highway speeds are typically above 80 mph.

  • 12.10.2012 7:21 AM PDT

How fast did you go?

Yeah, but the scenery sucks. Unless you have a hard-on for windmills.

No one in Michigan follows speed limits anyway, so going 90 on the highway isn't really anything special here, particularly at night.

Which is why the speed limit is 85 mph. There's nothing out there.

Most of the highways in the rest of the state have 75 mph speeds. that's still awesome in my book.

So do I, but not the 85-mph stretch. I get off just before it starts. :-/

We have an inch of snow tightly packed unto our roads that will likely be there for the next several months. No matter what the limit is, I'll be used to 40mph in 4WD. While you can legally go 85, all I need to do is turn the wheel and tap the brakes to experience 4Gs while traveling in a straight line.

OT: I drive 85 on the highway here in Arkansas daily. I do have to keep a close eye for the law. Good thing my brother is a cop.

My question is, do people still speed? Meaning, when the speed limit is 70 mph, drivers tend to drive 75-80 mph. Are there those who are driving 90-95 mph?

Of course. There's also people who still think the national speed limit is 55 mph, which is even more dangerous.

Hi I'm RT and I like to argue!

I was doing between 85 and 90 most of the time. Didn't want to push it too hard due to the road still being new and hogs having not yet figured out to stay away.

Of course, I got passed by a few people.

Even worse is there are people who refuse to do the speed limit. Ugh.

EDIT: William Gates get out of my head please

Unto the Fray we go

Where is this highway? Do you believe speed limits should be vanquished in favor of people actually having functioning brain cells?

Same, on my motorcycle it's usually 10-20 over the limit all the time.
