The assault was a fun, cumbersome weapon back in the day. A popular weapon and always could be relied on in Mulitplayer. However, it seems it didn't get much love in Single Player. It was a good weapon to use in combination with the pistol. Pistol tears the Elites, Assault Rifle shreds the Grunts and Jackals. But when you go on Heroic Or Legendary, it's power seemd stripped. Takeing 2-3 clips to take Elites down, your sheilds were usually out and taking damage even if you magae to kill An Elite. I chose a Plasma Rifle/Plasma pistol instead everytime due to its lack of power.

In Halo 3,I think it needs more power for Campaign, so we can use it if we want, instead of having to rely on something else if you didn't want too. I say It should take a quarter clip for a Major, half for spec op and honor gaurd, 3/4 for a Zealot, and one and 3/4 for a White Ultra.

Dealing with Brutes might be easier yet funner. There tough skin could not handle about 1/4 of the clip. And YAY! A way to effectivly kill Drones.

Anyone want to expand on some ideas? I just thought this would be an interesting topic to bring up.

But anyway, if they improve from H: CE, then the new varient of the AR should ideally still have 60 shots per clip, have a similar rate of fire, but with the longer barrel (which in the future should be rifled) it should be more accurate.

That's what I was thinking.

4 modes would just be a weaker Battle Rifle, the Assault Rifle should just be auto. I want the Battle Rifle in there as well for a more variety.

PS: I do like the shredder round Idea though.

I like SMG's, they are great with Frag grenades. Plus, they kill suprisngly quick duel weilded. And in halo 2 duel weiled it was almost equivalant of an Assault Rifle. Ranges seem the same as well. Just don't hold the trigger.

First of all, i HATE the SMGS. i use to hate the AR before too. but once halo 2 came along, i realized how great the AR was. Second, the AR in halo 3 DOES have a longer barrel, as seen in the trailer, which means that the new AR could have different modes of firing, such as burst or semi. i just hope it becomes more powerful.

Over exxagerating much? Do you really want the same exact weapon in Halo 3? And have it useless in Legendary? Learn to be more open. And be less ignorant.

Hmmmm, maybe diffrent ammo types?

Explosive rounds
Armour Piercing
Normal bullets

You can like upgrade the weapons, or find that diffrent ammo

Yea youre right HaloFighter, but I'm definetly open minded, I do see how branching out would not be bad for Halo, but I just don't want it to leave the things that mak Halo, Halo, I mean, just read my topic, the " picking up where I left off"

I think that customizable weapons would be pretty cool in the sense I'm using it
But to make the game be like a Splinter Cell or Tom Clancy game in general is a wee bit to much with different types of ammo and ways to shoot, I actually think different ways to shoot wouldnt be half bad, just as long as Halo stays Halo, and the SMG is not completely useless, if the AR returns, it should be a combination of the BR also.

Sorry for getting mad, I'm just a little put off about how people dont read the points I bring up and then rant about the stuff that my points are against.

AR was NOT reliable in multi-player, it was by far the worse. hell you had more chance with a plasma pistol.

I agree all the way. I have played Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell, and I hate them both. I did give them a chance, but they honestly don't appeal to me, mostly because of the weapon systems. I don't want to choose my ideal weapon, or buy and modify new ones! I want to be given a basic weapon, and improvise from there. Go out and find new ones. Thats alot more fun, to kill a bunch of enemies to get to the rockets than to choose it out of a menu before you even start playing.

only thing i would want improved with the AR is make it more powerfull in legendary and give it a scope similair to the battle rifles

Broomy, I didnt say I didnt like those games, I actually like Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon not as much, but still, all I'm saying is that customizable armor, weapons, and now different rounds, like shredder rounds, explosive, you would think that in the future these would be existent, but Halo is a fast paced action game in concept. and these things would make it into a tactical game which would just ruin it.

Most effective way I see to make the AR be effective and usefull.

Consider the damage dealt by a single SMG = 1
Consider the damage dealt by an AR = 1.5
Consider Dual SMGs damage = 2

With this simple system you get something like this. By Holding onto an SMG you have a moderately weak close combat weapon which has the ability to become more powerful through dual wielding it.

While choosing the AR gives you an efficient and powerful side arm that although will not be as powerful as dual SMGs (or other combos) will be able to deeal it's increased damage right after equipping the weapon with no need to search for additional equipment.

This would make the AR a more suitable weapon overall so while your BR or sniper work at longer ranges when the time comes to fight up close you do not need to play the dual wield lottery and play pray and spray with the right or wrong combo.

I feel the same well about the strength of the assult rifle, yet i dont want it to be powerful enough to be considered a somewhat power weapon like the BR. Most ppl dont like the SMG cause they said its to weak but i feel that the SMG had a sense of balance to it. Even tho it took a lil longer to kill your opponent it than what the assult rifle did in H1 it still didnt end a battle to quickly. I personally like the Smg and i hope that when using the assult rifle in H3 multiplayer it has a sense of balance to it as well *for instance i dont want it to be as powerful as it was in H1 but it might be nice to see it be a bit more powerful than the Smg, plus i cant see Bungie throwing the whole duel wielding thing out the window and not puttin it in H3 so i figure theres gotta be sense of a much more weaker assult rifle in terms of duel wielding... cause if there wasnt there would be no such thing as a drawn out battle
