all the spartains are gone! There's actually 9 besides Chief.
1. Linda
2. Fred
3. Will
35 Hours away from Earth, with Master Chief John-117 at the end of First Strike.
4. Cassandra
The Spartan previously too injured to fight, she is almost fully recovered and is getting her Mk VI armor soon. She contacts Chief in Conversations from the Univrse..the extra booklet that came with Halo 2.
5. Spartan -062, who was testing the Mk VI armor's ability to enter Earth's atmosphere. Introduced in the Halo Graphic novel.

6. Unnamed, too far to be recalled during the Reach invasion/destruction..most likely on Earth, Songheim.
7. Unnamed, too far to be recalled during the Reach invasion/destruction..most likely on Earth, Songheim.
8. Kelly
MIA; Dr. Halsey (Spartans' creator) took her on a secret mission, after sedating her. She is presumably headed to see what Ackerson (who hates Halsey and the Spartans) secret weapons program is..that is on par with the Spartan-II project..
9. James
MI over Reach during Blue Team's (John, Linda, James) mission before John and Linda (who was near death) enter the PoA, and jump to Halo..away from Reach.
His thruster was damaged, and he went flying into space with 90 minutes to find a human ship, or reach an orbital MAC station..he was a Spartan. He could do it.
9 Spartans..10 including the Chief..take a look at this picture..9 figures floating into Earth's atmosphere, Chief is about to jump/push out of the Pelican as well..
Things to keep in mind while looking at the image:
1. Spartans are the only ones who can enter a planet's atmosphere..ODSTs can't
2. A few levels (of Chief returning to Earth) were cut from Halo 2 due to time constraints.
3. Everything..including games, books, and illustrations come straight from the Halo bible, and are approved by bungie before being released to the public.
4. The image was made before Halo 2 was totally in production, before they knew of the time constraints...so they thought we would see that in Halo 2.
---A major twist is what Halo 3 needs..not necesarrily for people to keep buying the game..the fanbase is large enough, and the multiplayer is far more popular than the campaign..multiplayer sold Halo 2.
Halo 3 will no doubt seel many many copies, but to actually enjoy the campaign..they need to throw people off entirely like they did with the Flood in Halo---
