Subject: Why do people still pay for tv?

Over the past five years the ability to watch and stream videos, movies, and even TV shows has become increasingly more accessible. With sites like hulu you can pay far less to enjoy just as much, if not more, content than what is available by TV providers like Dish, Comcast, and Direct TV. In addition to this, there are many a site that provides a user the ability to watch almost any movie they want without charge. So, why do people still pay for TV if they can most likely stream what they are already watching online for far cheaper?

People like having their money stolen.

Please do not send me group invites.

I cut the cable years ago. I'm strictly an internet guy now. The only drawback is sports, but I'll go to a local bar if I wanna see a game.

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself."
-Nietzsche

I don't pay for TV.

We're gonna fight, me and you. We know who's really right about this conversation. If you don't then let's think this through, with out fists. If that doesn't suit you, we can use pistols. How does this prove who's right?

Well, we both know I'll win, that's a damn fact.

Because the business model on TV as we know it is far more effective than most people give it credit for.

Why So Serious?

"I'm gonna go America all over everybody's asses!"
-Charlie, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

It seems like mostly older people do that now. I haven't watched TV in ages.

I hear ya, between Netflix, streaming TV, and torrents, who the hell needs cable TV?

  • 12.10.2012 3:17 PM PDT

I have the most basic cable package Comcast offers and even that seems like too much. When I move into my new apartment next summer I'll probably drop cable altogether.

  • 12.10.2012 3:17 PM PDT

Yeah and the Wii Us Tvii will make cable even more useless

  • 12.10.2012 3:18 PM PDT

I havent sat down and willing watched TV for years as well.

Recon Number 54 -
If they are still looking, then while holding the snarl, I let drool start to drip from my mouth, I stand, curl my fingers into claws and with a hunched over crouch, I then make slow and deliberate steps towards them. When I get close enough, I let them hear my agonized and gasping growls and then, if they continue to stare, when I get within arm's reach? I kiss them on the nose, and run away giggling.

Netflix is more than enough for what I want from TV and it is half the price.

I doubt I will even get a License for TV and just save £60. Plug in my Xbox and Netflix and no advert TV.

The Internet is an empowerment tool that's agnostic; it doesn't care about race, gender, or age.

My mom does and honestly, I don't mind. The house phone, internet and cable are all in one.

Yes, I know my username is the 330th sequel to a terrible movie. You don't have to keep telling me.

Cable runs out next month, switching to an HTPC.

Amazon video and google play are vastly superior on account of how they are an order of magnitude cheaper than a monthly cable subscription. I really have only watched Breaking Bad in the last several months anyway.

Unsuccessfully trying to bring science and reason to The Flood...

If everyone stopped paying for the content then the industry would decline pretty rapidly I'm sure.

Yes they get some funding elsewhere, but it costs money to make the shows and so I believe that if I enjoy watching something I should support its continuation by paying for it.

That might just be me though...

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

I'm going to invade your heart like a barn swallow high on milk chocolate and grandma love.

Fairness is only possible within the limited powers of man. Elsewhere, there is only chance.

Thus I refute thee.

Because it's cool. Hipsters with their "tech saviness"...ew you.

I get direct tv and the only reason I have it is to watch the walking dead, justified, sons of anarchy, Breaking bad, and mad men since hulu doesn't carry them.

  • 12.10.2012 3:37 PM PDT

Cheeper to do so online. Not every thing has to be stolen.

Mostly because it would be hard to part ways with watching sports.
