I was just wondering if anyone here could help me out. I've been doing research into becoming a Police officer in Georgia, and I don't know what I should do for education.

Now, I thought it was simply that you went to a police academy, and then you were able to, but searching for anything related to a police academy brings me mostly to colleges that offers degrees related to criminal justice.

If anyone knows, can you clear up and confusion? Will I have to go to college for a degree in criminal justice? Is it just better for me?

Thanks guys, I really appreciate any help!

Give donuts to the police chief, and you can skip the education part.

I think this is a question better suited for a school counselor, or teacher, or just about anyone that isn't on The Flood.

good point, though i'm in an online high school. Don't have those things, well, at least not a counselor.

You go to police academy after receiving the job. You take the test, then they send you.
In MA anyway, that is how it is. You receive more, and are more likely to get a job there if you have a degree though. If I remember correctly, it is 10% more for AS, 15% for BS 25% for Master's.

RIP Derek Farley

A friend of mine who became a police officer said the college courses he needed he received during a two-year community college program. I don't know of it differs from state to state, but that's what he did.

"You are the last of your kind: bred for combat, built for war. You're the master of any weapon, pilot of any vehicle, and fear no enemy"

Is your name by any chance Grimes? Rick Grimes?

I'm currently serving in the military to fund my degree in Criminal Justice(Masters), and when I leave, I will be in good standing for it. Military and a Masters will look good on my resume.

But a Bachelors should do the trick. Also, go to a vo-tec school if you can.

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

Go to the local police station and tell them you want to speak to someone about it. I'm sure they'd be glad to help.

For all questions with answers unknown to you, the proper procedure is to assume the answer is peanut butter.

While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.

Your best bet is to contact your local police department. Might I inquire into your reason(s) for pursuing a career as a police officer?

I had a friend who applied to the city police department and the state troopers (to which he got accepted, but decided not to take the offer). This is what he told me during casual conversation:

Potential recruits are based on education and experience like any other job. Obviously, people with previous police experience would be looked at. Then, the next in line are those with college degrees, in something like criminal justice. Then, people who have military experience. Past that, you have pretty slim chances to get into the force.

Again, this might not be 100% true. As people have suggested, talking to a guidance counselor would give you more concrete answers.

GOAT

Don't police in oregon.

And if you do, don't park in a no parking zone for at most 10 minutes.
