Subject: Halo 4 Limited Edition

I don't see you doing anything to help our country.
Except sitting at home, naked, eating twinkies, rubbing your hands together going "Heh. Target Destroyed. Mission Accomplished." Oh wait. that's not helping.

So with all of these recent events I'd like to take a look at exactly what those of use who purchased the LE have actually gotten.

So there is of course Gabriel Thorne's journal, but compared to the content of Halsey's journal this is really pretty pathetic. It is more of a game manual than a journal, telling you about various weapons and of the Infinity. Palmer's messages all sound like they were written by a five year old, and that is of what I can actually read. I'm afraid I will snap the thing in half, or permanently bend a page if I open it far at all. So it looks nice on the outside I guess.

As for the "top secret briefing packet" you can only open it once, despite the DLC coming in a resealable bag of the exact same style. I wish I hadn't opened it, because the content inside is useless. It's filler and not even good filler.

I will admit, the armor diagram is actually quite cool, though the pictures of random unrelated helmets on the side slightly ruin the over all effect. Once again though, this feels like game manual content that was fancied up to be "LE content".

So now onto the DLC. At least this comes in a resealable packet, why both did not I will never know. So we have the FOD card. Sweet stuff, except I can only watch it on Waypoint streaming..? That was the worst part about the Reach Legendary video. At least give us the curtsey of an HD download, seeing as it is already on Youtube. Then the DLC card. The War Games map pass, promising 9 maps. I am pretty irritated that many got the first three for free, yet I do not have the luxury. I guess they can make up for it with the 6 specializations! Oh right...And yes, they card says 6, implying they printed them back when only 6 were created, not having the decency to reprint them correctly. Even then, there is no longer anything exclusive about them. Then we have the avatar crap and the in game emblem and armor and such. We get a skin, yet the console gets FOTUS. Never before has the console gotten an exclusive, as it is always understood that anyone getting the LE and above most like HAS a console. So that's just great.

So there is the $60 for the unfinished game, the War Games pass, which with the free DLC now technically costs $5 to me, a stream of FOD (available on YouTube in better quality), "exclusives" with no real value, and then all the fancy fluff which altogether most likely cost $10 to make.

So I paid $100 for a nice box, a metal bound game manual, and some packets. Great.

I didn't buy the LE because to me it looked like just a different case with a bunch of papers jammed in it.

Boy am I glad I made that choice.

Well don't say you weren't warned. There were tons of 'I am canceling my LE Edition' threads all over the place for weeks. You could hardly go ten minutes without seeing at least one. And it was quite well deserved. Today's events, while Microsoft's fault rather than 343's, still only makes the cancellations even more valid. It's a shame this had to happen.

I'm not saying it's right that many people got the maps for free. It's very unfair. But hopefully it will show Microsoft and its subsidiary 343 what's what. Not skimp on future LE's for example.(substantial physical content [i.e. Halo 3 Legendary Edition and Halo: Reach Limited/Legendary Edition] > digital content).

My thoughts were $60 game + $25 Map Pass + $10 FOD + early access to some stuff. I was very wrong.

I don't see how that effects this entire situation. If anything this all just shows I was right. 343i shipped a poorly balanced unfinished game and were very deceitful with the LE.

"You are the last of your kind: bred for combat, built for war. You're the master of any weapon, pilot of any vehicle, and fear no enemy"

Agreed.

This was not deceit on their part. Do not be so dramatically naive.

The onus is on Microsoft here to act responsibly and to ensure the transaction processes on XBL go accordingly. And they lost 343i a lot of money today.

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

Which I'm sure they will compensate them for. I more mean deceit with the LE overall, and of their unfinished game.

Lol no, it shows that you were an idiot. You thought the game was bad and you were ripping on it, then you went and paid $100 for the LE.

Ripping on the awful campaign changes yes. I was still excited for multiplayer, now not so much. This game was actually MORE disappointing than I expected it to be. That's saying something.

Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Personally, I think the packaging and fan service was a serious step back from what we've had before. Your comparison of the Reach LE was spot-on (just did the same thing this past weekend), and the Reach LE gave you so much more, as well as better quality stuff.

The DLC pack-in issues were disclosed up-front, so while I cannot complain too much I do feel it was terribly handled by 343i/MS. The recent map-pack thing was utter BS IMO. If you offer something as an exclusive, you better keep it that way for a reasonable amount of time.

I got the SE because I like the boxart. And that crimson map pack glitch was hilarious, serves them right for making DLC for the game 1 month after launch.

Honestly, this is a good cover up for all the idiots who won't know its a cover up .

I'm pat myself on the back every day now for realizing that it was going to be garbage back in February.

I see a pattern involving game industries now a days and their release of limited editions and downloadable content. They will sell you a product that's not even near 75% completed, for the same price a 100% completed product would be sold a (few) year(s) ago.

A game should be 100% completed and then, after a sane amount of time, downloadable content should be released to amplify the whole.

Games now a days are released to fast and make promises they can't fullfill. One of my friends pre- orderd the Halo 4 LE the day it went out. I pre - orderd a regular copy 3 days before the actual release of Halo 4. He paid so much more then me and so far as today we've both shared exactly the same game experience.

Games these days are all about pleasing the new generation of gamers and attracting a new fan base. This results in mediocre fps perkfests and empty promises. Another example is the Gears of War series. In Gears of War 3 they also featured a season pass, which would allow you to save 30% off dlc. The dlc was decent, but not exclusive at all. Those who paid the full price were ripped off, because one week later they'd make a big part of the otherwise dlc exclusively content free of charge.

It's the same as what 343 is doing now. They release a glitched, unfinished mediocre game and are trying to get as many people to play it as possible, because they want to make up for 'most anticipated game of the year' that 'critics' gave them. This results into loyal fans being ripped off. They are trying to fix something broken and they're not doing it well. All they seem to care about is attracting as much gamers as possible without considering to actually deliver something decent.
