WWII in terms of casualties and destruction. Vietnam in terms of the psychological aspect of it. Dense jungles with an invisible foe that may or may not be watching you. No wonder a lot of people couldn't cope.

I don't know man, World War I had a giant phycological toll, sitting in a trench with your legs rotting half of you submerged in rain water and bomb shells tearing limbs from dozens of people a few feet to the right of you, ready to hear that whistle blow to head into german machine gun fire.
Yeah, but I feel like the jungle would be scarier than a Trench. The primal fear of the unknown and all that.

It would really suck to fight invisible aliens that are to take your skull and spine as a trophy. I see your point.

25 million people died in World War 2, the civil war barely touches it with 650,00. (Military only) Civilian not included.

Not sure where you got that idea from.

What are these first person words you speak of?

Anglo-Zanzibar war.

No entertainment whatsoever.

Well the Trench Warfare has the threat of constant threat no matter what your doing. You could die at any moment from Bombs, mortar enemy soldiers and biological weapons. You'd also smell burnt and raw human flesh all the time. So yeah some of that could apply to Vietnam too but it's all based on perspectives.

I'm going to go with WW1 based off of the use of gas and the trench warfare.

World War I.

The amount of savagery upon the battlefield in that war is disgusting. Crude automatic firearms, chemical/biological weapons, bayonets, horses...

vietnam, we failed to stop the spread of communism

WWI was worse than WWII. The whole war was the result of a Serbian shooting the Austria-Hungarian heir, rather than countries actually attacking other countries (see: World War II). The methods of war were worse as well; new technology such as mustard gas and improved artillery combined with older tactics such as infantry/cavalry charges resulted in many strategically and tactically stupid deaths, resulting in the "war" consisting for the most part of soldiers forced to sit in dirty, disease-ridden trenches while artillery fire from miles away did most of the killing.

World War II was a war that resulted in the toppling of dictators that wished to control and remake the world as they saw fit. World War I was a slaughter that resulted in a Germany destined to attempt revenge and a Middle East destined for instability due to the fall of the Ottoman Empire.

there were many factors involved, Germany's blank cheque to Austria for one thing, Austrian hostility in negotiations with the Serbs which basically pushed them into a war, and a rather ineffective alliance system left by Bismarck. Still, there are more things involved, and i see the assassination as a small but yes important factor
