Good question. I had a good friend who was dumped on his face by his GF before she ran off with 3 different dudes. After finding another girl and dating her he felt the need to give his ex a second chance. I facepalmed hard when he told us they were getting back together.

That's just being stupid. I'm talking about something strong enough over the course of time to keep apart indefinitely. It's an accumulated effort.
