As far as I know, the only difference between other Point and Click adventure games and The Walking Dead are the lack of puzzles. Games like, Secret of Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Leisure Suit Larry all have puzzles.
I can't really say, though. I haven't played many.

Just as every RPG isn't the same neither are Adventure games. They're all part of that broad genre so I'm curious about what The Walking Dead critics who are intent on dismissing it as "a real video game" think of all these other Adventure games. I think they're staying away from it since dismissing this entire genre that covers some very coveted games, such as the ones you mentioned, looks pretty asinine.

Isn't each episode like $20?

$100 is way too much for a point and click adventure game

Just as Planescape: Torment is widely accepted as one of the best RPGs of all time. That game has minimal gameplay, there's only a few areas in the game with fighting. The majority of the game revolves around dialogue.

How so I described for the most part everything you do in the game? Sure it requires moving your character around and the occasional shooting/button mashing, but unless you are a 5 year old that stuff is far from challenging or engaging for a veteran player. If you want constant engagement or else you are dead there are other games out there that punish you for not paying attention or not knowing what to do. It isn't a challenging game nor should it be for the game it is suppose to be and the story it is telling. You really never die other than the occasional screw up in which case there is no negative consequence on the player since you never really fight anybody or manage your resources since everything you pick up automatically fits in Lee's pants no matter how big or small it is. Sad part is I have played VN's with more gameplay than that game.

You're all over the map when it comes to this game. First it's "this game lacks gameplay" now it's "this game isn't hard enough". You can't make up your mind because it's absurd to suggest this video game "for the most part lacks gameplay". Are you required to engage with the game? Yes. Can you control the character on screen? Yes. Can you fail events which require you to go back to the previous checkpoint? Yes.

By all means we can criticize the game but don't spew this verbal diarrhea about it not having gameplay and not being hard enough and hence somehow a quasi-video game.

The human element always mucks things up.

Only if you like playing as a bunch of boring cry babies.

I think you misunderstand what I am saying. Sure the game has gameplay in the sense you are talking about which is controlling the character. Though in terms of conventional games which allow you to more than that it severely lacks that ability. As I have said before I have played VN's with more gameplay than TWD which shows the game is not meant to be played for gameplay instead it is a story driven game which is fine, but that affects the reason for buying it. If a game lacks depth in the gameplay aspect you are better off watching it instead of playing it since there is little reason to play it. Essentially you are paying $25 for an interactive movie.

What the hell is conventional gameplay in a world of turn based RPG's, western RPG's, 3D platforming games, 2D platforming games, hack and slash, fighting, sim racers, arcade racers, puzzle games, third person shooters, first person shooters, strategy games, real time strategy games, sports games, stealth games, music games, party games, simulation games, sandbox games, MMO's, and whatever else I'm missing?

There is no writing in stone that states how a game engages the player. There does seem to be your convenient and self made definition of what gameplay is though.

If you seriously think TWD is better being just watched, and it is something you could have someone watch as you play I suppose, then that is counterintuitive to the purpose of the game and like I said I seriously question if you've even played it.

Interesting examples, but when it comes down to it the game is lacking in the actual game portion of the game. I am seriously questioning why you are so against me saying the gameplay is lacking compared to most games. If you want me to explain conventional more then I think a better explanation at least for modern games is the ability to do stuff within the game. Most games nowadays have hours of gameplay TWD on the other hand is like a movie with some game aspects. As for questioning if I have played it I don't understand what you are getting at the game has a great story, but poor gameplay. Anyone that has played games for a long time really should be able to see that much. Now you could argue it is good gameplay for the game it is going for, but even then that is debatable since it could have been more.

There is no correct way to engage the player, correct amount of content, or correct length to a game just as there is no correct style, length, or number of sentences a novel requires. The same for music.

Don't try this nonsense about it being a movie "with some gameplay elements" because it doesn't fit your definition of conventional gaming. There is no right way to engage an audience. TWD does it differently than Halo for example, true. But do not say it doesn't because if you actually think it's better watching the game on YouTube rather than engaging the game I am claiming you have not played the game and are making claims about a title you've never even experienced.

I never said it is better to watch the game on youtube than play it, but you would get roughly the same experience. Personally that difference in experience is not enough to justify $25. There are plenty of other games where this concept applies TWD is just one of them. Now I do agree there are different ways to engage the player, but that can be said about all games no matter how simple or complex they are. Now if you play video games for mainly the story aspect and not the gameplay then TWD is a game for you, but most people I know play games for the gameplay and story or at the very least gameplay. Since there are better places to go to get a good story. If anything the issue I have with people that love TWD is they act like the story is something profound when it really isn't and the main reason they do so is because that is the only good part in the game. It has very little replay value, other games have better graphics, other games have better gameplay, other games have better music, and even some other games have better stories. It is a lackluster game that won GoTY in a year of mediocre games.

If for story yes. But it is a push to play game. If you do not like push to play games you will not like it.

Honestly, this is a good cover up for all the idiots who won't know its a cover up .

Watch some playthroughs on YouTube before you decide on it. I thought it was good, but not really a game; more like Dragon's Lair.
