iPhone is more intuitive and user-friendly. If it is your first smart device, it is probably best to go Apple.

Android is better for experienced users that might want to push their devices to the limits IMO.

The iPhone IS a smartphone.

This is pretty good advice.

I have an iPod and a Sony Xperia U, I prefer the iPod but that said the Xperia is cheaper than an iPhone.

If you have the money, I would go with the iPhone.

Just want to echo this.

But as for the actual question, it depends. Are you willing to spend the SAME on an android tablet/phone as you would the iphone/ipad? If yes, android by a mile. If no, why?

Most people compare the cheapest android to the cheapest ipad.

Which is akin to comparing the cheapest Chevy to the cheapest Ferrari. Obviously, they're not going to be even close to one another. But now, if you're talking about a Corvette instead of a cobalt, you'll notice a world of difference.

You need to compare like things. There's a much lower lower end in the android market than in the apple market.

An android phone of the same price as an iphone will be faster, have better support, and more space (and potentially expansion slots).

Same with tablets.

To be fair, if OP is going with a contract with a phone carrier, ATT/Verizon usually give higher subsidies to Apple products so they can push those products.

What I'm saying is I guess if OP is paying sticker price, $500 iPhone versus $500 HTC, HTC will probably be the better performing phone. But if getting a discounted phone under contract, that $500 iPhone generally gets a much bigger discount than the $500 HTC would.

Possibly.

I'd personally still pick android over iphone/ipad. (But then, there are also a few nice Windows 8 phones coming out if you've got windows 8 on your computer - And the Microsoft Surface 8 Pro will have full blown windows 8, with an i5 processor too, but that's way more expensive)

Windows phone are indeed pretty good, Microsoft just messed up by ending up late to the party so hardly anyone one wants to swap brands.

Ironically the opposite of what they experience with operating systems - everyone sticks with Windows because that is what they've always had.

I think you mean android.

Please do not send me group invites.

With ICS and Jelly Bean on any new Android device you would buy, it's much more user-friendly than Gingerbread was. The difference in usability between iOS and Android has gotten very close.
