Subject: What is more important in education?

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Reading comprehension or Critical Thinking.

I see a lack of both on any forum I visit. So, schools must be highlighting neither. Since resources are limited, which should be emphasized more?

"I will show you how a true Prussian officer fights!"

"And i will show you where the iron crosses grow..."

- "Cross of Iron"

Reading comprehension leads to critical thinking in a way so i say that.

Inappropriate. Went a little to far with the butt hole tearing.

Critical thinking by far. Learning how to think, how to develop complex thought from critical analysis, is far more important than learning how to regurgitate what you've read.

  • 12.11.2012 9:40 AM PDT

Both are but I critical thinking can be devloped by just talking to others, having discussions and bla bla. Reading and writing and stuff takes practice so both are essential.

Nope. I am encouraging critical thinking. Typing out a response means you have to think.

Oh geez..

I'd say reading comprehension.

The Wonderful LeSieg!

Reading comprehension seems to be an important step in gaining critical thinking, so that.

  • 12.11.2012 9:41 AM PDT

Why would you expect that on the internet?

I kind of suspected as much. Ok no I didn't I just figured you didn't so people wouldn't vote and leave and that they'd have to reply. That's close though right?

I change my answer to critical thinking.

  • 12.11.2012 9:45 AM PDT

Please do not send me group invites.

This is my answer, even though it doesn't quite conform to your question:

I think that facts, dates, events, etc are important to know, but I think that knowing and understanding the "why" and "how" behind them is more important.

  • 12.11.2012 9:45 AM PDT

You can't say one is important than the other if you were a teacher you would want your students to be able to read and be able to think critcally.

Yes, I can. And its only a matter of time until this debate actually happens. There is only so much money in education.

Forget being a teacher then. How about for your kids at home? You can teach them how to read and think. Money saved, problem solved.

It sure is amazing how we manage to teach kids math and English at the same time.

Reading comprehension. Critical thinking cannot be taught in schools. That is something obtained on one's own.
