Subject: [Programming] Who here is in the text based adventure challenge?

Simple:

You have until Jan 1st (preliminary deadline) to create a text based adventure game. That's the brief. Do it how you wish, just lemme know you're taking part!

Go!

Outside entrants:
(me)
David, the lead programmer at Paradigm Softworks
Emil, the other programmer at Paradigm Softworks
My friends Sam and Simon

Floodian entrants:
Hylebos
Razgriz Berkut
Disambiguation
The Yeti
XoG Suppressor
A Deaf Boy
l Latsu15 l
cgauthier7304

OK. I'm gonna put together a short list of languages to use.

-Something people have heard of, ie java based, C based, Python, Scratch. If you use something no-one's heard of no-one is gonna vote for you.

This thing is really open ended. It might be best to stick true to the old style of text based adventure games, or you could try something new.

Challenge accepted.

  • 12.11.2012 10:11 AM PDT

On the Left

Godshatter: I can go all the way with someone without being attracted to them.
CamCamm: How does that work?
Godshatter: I'm easily aroused by anything that moves. It's a curse.
Brain says 'No, that's ugly', body says 'ugly is fine with me'.

Any certain length? End game? depth?

I can make one using a switch and Ill call it a day!

No limitations. 1 switch isn't gonna win you the challenge.

We'll all vote at the end. You can't vote for yourself. (I'm also competing) Should really be judged on creativity, depth and immersiveness.

Hold on, hold on. Do I have to build the entire underlying engine too, or can I use an existing one?

Writing an engine and developing an engrossing story about Darth Vader, unicorns, and flan is going to take me way more than 20 days.

Do it however you want. I'm using Python. One of my friends is using Scratch, and another C#. Honestly, anything.

EDIT: No .bat files, that's asking for trouble.

Probably best not to write it in something too obscure. You'll hurt your chances if people have to download an IDE they've never heard of to test your game.

Shell is the most common scripting language on the planet.

id be wary of shell, you could easily fit something malicious in it.

You could do the same with any language. Read before you run.
